Toshiba Satellite A100 VA1 system unit model# PSAAKC - VA104C

Hi,

I've got some kind of power problem with my A100. Power cord plugged in, but no charging(it means the power of the battery is zero, but charging light is on.) Also, the little charging icon on left corner is not moving. If i pull the battery out for couple of seconds and push it back, the charging icon start moving for 10 sec and stops.I did some investiagations to resolve the problem and found out that, maybe the charging control chip is gone.My question is how could I get that chip and install it?Or maybe there is any other way to fix this problem? Thanks

I have the same problem with my Satellite A100. I was told I'd need to replace the PCB (Power Control Board), which costs $426.80 for the part from EMPR Aust.. Anyone know if this is the same thing as the Charging Control Chip?

Is it easy to replace yourself?

    Does anyone have instructions?

Same problem for me. Toshiba agents say $NZ700 to change out a board.

Nothing to do with the battery as I purchased a new one.

Does the system power on using the AC adapter?

How old is the battery?

If the system powers on and runs normally on AC, and only the battery fails to charge, the 1st thing I would look at is the battery itself.

Batteries in portable systems have a lifespan of 300 to 500 recharge/discharge cycles before they normally fail. This is why portable batteries have a 1 year warranty regardless of the system warranty.

If replacing the battery does not resolve, then you most likely need a motherboard replacement.

Sometimes laptops are supplied with CD/DVD discs which perform this task when inserted in the CD/DVDROM drive and reboot. If you don't have these you will need to obtain a windows operating system disk for your licensed OS (ebay generally will have these), plus you will have to download the motherboard drivers from the laptop manufacturer website, installing these after running the OS disk from boot. Good Luck.

Older Toshiba laptop runs on battery, but not AC cord.

on some older laptops the battery has to be installed for it to turn on.
if the battery don't hold a charge it's no good.. but you need it to get power from plug.

The system is not starting.

This could be due to any number of issues,

Try this first.. try booting it off just the battery...

any change?

If not , then remove the battery, remove the power cord, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds..

Then, plug just the power cord back in, no usb devices, or anything else plugged into the computer

With just the power cord plugged in, now try to power it up, any change.
