Sr1420nx not reading cd

You have a virus in your computer. Boot the computer, immediately hit the delete key until you can get to the setup screen and it will allow you to format your drive.

Just replace the fan. They are a standard commodity and not hard to change. Get a good one this time. You get what you pay for.

Firs try to clean CD lens with cleaning kit something like this one:

And if that will not not help probably is best idea to replace your CD/DVD.

a dead HDD means (its bad) or you lost 12vdc to it
that means your PSU is dead. 5vdc is ok but that is not enough.
as more are this old. common.

learn to use a voltmeter
see that HDD connector
on pin is 5vdc
other is 12vdc, if 12v is 0v, the motor can not SPIN EVER.

Could be one of two things: either the power supply is going bad or the RAM is either going bad or isn't seated properly inside.

First thing I would try would be to re-seat all the memory chips inside the computer. There could be up to 4 sticks of memory in some computers. If this doesn't work, try pulling the memory out of the computer one stick and a time and booting the PC. If it boots, you've found your bad memory stick. Put all the others back in and replace the faulty one.

If none of this works, you might consider calling HP (maker for compaq) for support on getting the power supply replaced.

If blowing the dust did not help your only other options are replace the fan or replace the heat sink with a newer one that incorporates a quieter fan.

have you tried different cds? or just 1 same cd?
