Question about GE Monogram ZDI15C Automatic Icemaker

1 Answer

I have a GE Monogram Icemaker ZDI15CBB which is about 5 years old. About a year and a half ago I replaced the ice level sensor. About 6 months ago, I replaced the water pump and besides that, it has been running great! (I did both of these myself) It is installed under my bar and is plugged into a 15amp GFI along with a little giant pump to remove the water from the melted ice. A couple of weeks ago, the GFI started tripping. It tripped every 6 to 12 hours. As part of the trouble shooting I plugged the Little Giant Pump into another outlet and the GFI still tripped. I replaced the GFI, cleaned the condenser fins and ran a cleaning cycle on the Icemaker. It ran great for about three days and then the GFI tripped again. I reset the GFI it and it ran for about a day before tripping. I reset it again and it has been running for about 2 days now. I am a little confused about what could be the cause of this and how to troubleshoot further. The GFI is up high enough that no water can get to it. I also have a water sensor in the floor and it has not been going off and there is no water around, so it is not water tripping the GFI.

I replaced the GFI, so the GFI is not the problem. If it is drawing too much current and I plug it into a non GFI outlet, will it trip the circuit breaker or could it damage the icemaker? It worked for 5 years in a GFI outlet, so if it is not the outlet, then it has to be a part of the icemaker. I have not pulled the schematics, but is there a capacitor in the circuit that can be replaced?

GFI outlets tend to wear out very quickly with a refrigerator running on them, most Manufacturers do not recommend plugging any major appliance into a GFI outlet. If you plug it into a non GFI outlet and it works fine the problem is in the outlet.try and plug it into another recepticle the GFI might be bad.But if you try in another outlet and same problem then its the fault in the compressor. The compressor is heavy current consuming part. And when the compressor kicks on the high voltage current is passed ,but if the compressor or any of its supporting parts like capacitor or relay or the compressor fan is weak then it will trip the GFI. -------------- To check where the parts are located and how to disassemble the unit and from where to order parts. -------------

Thanks. keep updated for any more can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Where can I find a replacement pump motor for my GE Monogram ZDI15CBB Ice Maker? It's a Jakel J238-062-6510 motor.

Which pump are you looking for? Drain or recirculating pump (WR57X10028) now GE didn't produce this unit so you can find this part cheaper from Whirlpool part number 2217220 for half the price. As for the drain pump 1901A is a complete kit for an ice machine for the external drain system. I hope this helps. Good Luck

GE Monogram Ice Maker makes ice, unit doesn't cool enough

This model Icemaker makes ice by flowing water across a freeze plate. It is located in the top of the unit behind the white cover directly below the ON/OFF/CLEAN switches. After freezing a sheet of ice it releases and slides to the cutting grid. It then drops into the ice bin and begins to melt and the whole process starts over again. The level of ice in the bin is controlled by the high level sensor on the right side of the ice bin. It is a whit tube with two wires coming out of the top. Without this sensor it can overrun the bin capacity. Bottom line this unit does not freeze ice, it only holds it like cooler does.

Replaced a water valve but still makes a chugging sound.

Get scouring pad (green pad) from supermarket and remove cutting try. Use pad and cleaning solution to really scrub the evaporator tray until slippery clean. Use forward to backward strokes, not left to right. Clean all surfaces of freezing tray and that should help.

its possible that your water tank has frozen up, try turning the refrig off and leave the doors open for about 10-15 mins and try it again. if that works just reset temp controls a little lower..
