Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to any of the numbered ports on the rear of the router. Connect the remaining end to the Ethernet port on your computer. Connect a second Ethernet cable to the port on the router labeled "Internet." Connect the other end of the cable to your high-speed modem.

  • 3

Power on your high-speed modem. Plug the router's power supply into any available electrical outlet; connect the power supply to the appropriate port on the rear of your router. Examine the LCD lights located on the front of your router. Wait for the LCD light labeled "Diag" to stop displaying a bright red light, and then turn on your computer.

  • 4

Open the network management control panel for your operating system (in Windows, open the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel" and double-click on the "Network Connections" icon; in OS X, open the "Apple" menu, select "System Preference" and click on the icon labeled "Network").

  • 5

Configure your network settings. In Windows, double-click on the icon labeled "Local Area Connection," click on the button labeled "Properties," click on the option labeled "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)," select the option labeled "Obtain an IP address automatically" and click "OK" twice. In OS X, select "Using DHCP" from the pull-down menu labeled "Configure IPv4." Repeat this procedure with any other computers you wish to connect to the router.

Open your Web browser and enter "" in the address field. When prompted, leave the "User Name" field blank and enter "admin" in the "Password" field. Locate the wireless mode menu and select the appropriate option, based on the types of devices you wish to connect to your network (if uncertain, select "Mixed"). Choose a unique SSID name and enter it in the appropriate field; click "Apply."

  • 7

Click on the button labeled "Enable" next to the option labeled "WEP." Click on the button labeled "Edit WEP Settings" and enter your desired security information. Make a note of these settings; then click "Apply."

  • 8

Restart your computer(s). For those computers you wish to connect wirelessly, open their network configuration screens and enter the security information in the appropriate fields. Setup is now complete

What is ssid connect laptop to pc.laptop to be used in family room laptop is toshiba c650

the ssid is the name of the router that you are trying to connect to. the name can also be changed to whatever the end what the name to be as well in the router. so if your linksys router uses the default name then the ssid would be "linksys" or "link".

Trying to connect wirelessly to 2 wire. I get limited access icon

    Hi groveland1,

I see that you are having issue with your Internet Connection, Limited or no connectivity is a possible issue with your network key / security key on the router and your laptop.

    1. Try and check the network key in your router.

    2. Check your network settings in the Laptop and see if the security settings in your Laptop is the same as the security/network key in your Router.

    3. If possible recreate your wireless connection in windows for a fresh connection from your Laptop to your Router.

    4. Change your Network Key in the Router and in your Laptop see if it will connect in-case you may have forgotten you old Network Key.

    Hope this helps.

I need the security key to my existing wireless netgear router.

The Security Key is normally used for Wireless routers to protect your connection from any unauthorized use. As you have said that you do not have the Security key for your router with you, the best way to connect your ACER laptop to the Netgear router is by asking your Wireless service provider to reset the security key & freshly reentering the same on both of your HP & ACER laptops.

hi!. reseting the router is your last option, but 1st try to connect your laptop directly to the router using an ethernet cable and access the setup page of your router and go the wireless settings of the router and you will see the wireless security and password.. to access the setup page u need to check the default gateway of your router, how? click on start, run and type in cmd, it will show the dos prompt and type ipconfig/all, it will list ur ip address, subnetmask and the default gateway.. ex., then pull up the browser and type at the url- and it will ask the username and password for the router, u need to type in the username and password for the router so that u can access the setup page..I hope this will help ur problem

Can't connect to Linksys WRT54G when security is enabled

Please make sure that the type of the security on the router should match on the computer as well. Also make sure the SSID on your router is the same in as your computer.
If this does not work, make another profile onto your computer, or simply click on the wireless icon and it should ask you for the security pass, put in the pass and you should be in.
At the moment I would strongly recommend to make another profile on your laptop, right click on the wireless icon, properties, wireless networks, make sure that the use windows to configure is checked and under prefered networks add the profile of the existing router with same SSID and security you are trying to use.
    Let me know!
