Question about Jenn-Air Kitchen Ranges

5 Answers

First our oven shut off and would only turn on if we turned on all burners. The lights on the display would slowly light back up and oven would work temporarily. Finally last week it stopped working all together. We were told it was the clock? But now tonight as we were getting ready to order that part, the cooktop wont turn on either. What the heck.

  • millacarver Sep 17, 2010

is the problem somehow all connected to the oven and clock going out problem? Is that even what it is?

  • millacarver Sep 17, 2010

K, so my husband took it apart and i googled and read some other people had replaced caps and it fixed their problem. Only, it was for a different model then ours. so we dont know which cap it is that needs replacing for our model. Do you happen to know which one that would be? It will be a happy day if this is something we can fix ourselves. Thanks. Camilla

I notice you are trying to find the cause of the oven range dying.

Not sure how comfortable you are with dealing with mains voltage driven gadgets. If not, then call a repair technician.

Otherwise you can trace the voltages with a multimeter to find out where the break occurs. If the clock circuit is not getting voltage, then you will have to go down to the mains termination to check which components are involved. It could be a leaky wire feeding the clock board.

In case you are familiar with reading the circuit diagrams you can find one for your model here. (quality is not good but try to print on A3 sheet if you can).

Yes the main board-clock. They always say it's the main board-clock because most of the time it is. Yes, they are guessing that it's the main board but most of the time it is so, they are ahead of the game if it works. If it doesn't work, then they get paid to come back out and guess, and fix it again.

We suggest having a very good visual check, trying to see if all the electric wires are ok. Unplug the range from the electric outlet so you don't electrocute yourself or others.

Check fist if the connector on the clock are not loose.

The connections to the elements and thermostats and stove are not loose, burned or rusty.

Not any wire is naked and touching other contact.

All these will help avoiding the cost of the clock which about $200.

In any case what a ling here below where you can find the parts you will need and also the parts layout diagram and also the wiring diagram. All these and with an electrical tester you can have a popper inspection of all the electrical parts.

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=48108&diagram_id=688052#d688052

Take your time since you have 50% chances to avoid replacing the clock. Hope you will be lucky and use the $200 for something else.

Actually it's not just the clock, it's the controller board - the clock is the visible part of it. It must be replaced. While you are there also inspect the touchpad board - the plastic sometimes get deformed by the heat and the contacts go haywire.

When you mentioned the display slowly lighting up, this makes me think power supply on the control board is failing, and it's probably an electrolytic cap that's going bad (they dry out after a period of time). It's possible that the terminals to your timer are corroded and intermittent, so check them and clean them if they need it (steel wood, emory cloth, whatever works).
Here is a good general troubleshooting website that may help you:

I don't understand why lighting all the burners would allow the oven to come on, but if I think of something, I'll get back with you.
Good luck, and hope this helps you.

If my electricity goes out is there anther way to light my gas stve that has and electronic ignighter

If you have a gas range that allows the gas to flow freely on the surface burners, you can light them by using a match or lighter. Hold the match or lighter adjacent to the burner you intend to light and slowly turn the gas on. The burner should light.

However, the oven still will NOT work due to that fact that modern ovens are electronically controlled by the control panel on the range. So...you will still be able to cook, using the surface burners, but the oven will not function. If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

My gas was recently shut off for repairs from the gas company, now its back on and i dont know how to get my oven or stove back on

Ok you did not mention if your oven or stive had pilot lights or igniters. Given you asked the question how too turn it back on I have to assume it does not have electronic igniters. You need to light the pilot lights. There are 2 in top that are between each of the 2 burner sets. If you can not gain access to the pilot light by lifting the top of the stove up you can use a fire starter type lighter and re-light them. Sometimes they will self light if you just use a match on the burners.
As for the oven you can gain access 2 ways to the pilot light. One is to unlatch and remove the oven lower inside panel. The pilot light will be near the burner head. Just light it. The other is to remove the broiler drawer and reach way back in there to light the pilot light.

Again if you have igniter ignition all you have to do is turn on a burner or the oven. Good Luck.

GE Model #J TP30B0M1BB Oven The oven stopped heating up on either bake or broil. Light and display are still working

Check to see if 2 of your range burners have failed too.  It would indicate that your breaker needs to be turned off and then back on to get 240 V again.  The panel and 2 burners will work on 120 V just fine.

GE Spectra TrueTemp Oven Pilot is Out

REmove bottom panel from stove. shut gas off for at LEAST 5 min. Longer is better. Then placel open flame above gas nozzle, slowly turn to ignite posiiton. After it is lit, wait 30 seconds and turn to on positon.
If by chance this model doens't have a knob for this, then turn gas valve off for 5 min, let fumes evaporate, light flame, place over nozzle, turn gas on.replace bottom oven panel slowly.
