Open the Control panel 2. Open the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon. 3. Verify the "Place volume icon in the taskbar" checkbox is checked. If this option is not available or is grayed out, skip to the next section of this document. 4. If you were able to check this box, click ok and close out of this window and the Control Panel. 5. Double-click the sound icon in the Systray and verify that all the sound volumes are mid-way or higher.
Check Windows services. Right Click My Computer and Manage. Choose Services and Application > Services. Choose "Windows Audio" and set to Automatic and Start. Now next you can do is If you open control panel & click device manager the window that opens will show a list of all installed hardware. Look for anything with an exclamation mark beside it, or to do with sound. If you see anything, right click it, check it isn't Disabled then select "Properties." The next window should have some tabs along the top, the one you are looking for is "Driver," you should now see an "Update driver" button. Check ur sound card information by doing this Click on start menu Click on Run Type dxdiag, enter Click on the sound tab There is button of test direct sound click on this check if there is sound Check ur registry. Check if the sound registry key is enabled or disabled. There could be an error in registry, run registry cleaner reg in out to scan for errors.

repairing windows Once you enter the setup and it loads the entire program, then you need to press the R key, which is for repairing the windows installation. This action will take you to the dos mode where further processing will be done. In the dos mode, system will ask you about installation place. Most of the people install their operating system in the C drive, which comes at number 1 option, so you need to press option 1. However, if you have so many partitions or you have installed the operating system then you need to choose the option according to your drive name. Here you need to enter your password as well, but if you have not set any password then you can simply press enter.
*Then there will be a c:\WINDOWS> command in a dos mode where you need to write, "Copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\windows. However, if you have different place of your installed operating system then you will write the address of that drive. This is the whole process and now you can eject the cd and can press exit to restart the system. Now this process will copy the correct NTLDR file from installation disk to your hard drive by making your system in the working condition.

It sounds like you have put the rotate lock on.
The button next to the volume is a lock toggle switch.
try that and see if it will rotate.

Activating Ace Aspire 5100 Key Board Volume Control

Not absolutely positive about your model, but on some the volume icons are on the buttons on keyboard along with the keys having something else on them. if thats the case to activate the volume probably requires holding the Fn key + Key with the volume Up/Dwn icon on it.

hope this helps please rate if it does.

No Sound from Acer 5100 : Volume tab is disabled

I am worried that there is a problem with the sound card on your motherboard. If it has worked in the past and then suddenly disappeared, usually it is because the computer can no longer locate your sound card. It will not load a driver for a device that no longer exists. Since you have already done most of the troubleshooting steps, it is time to think about replacing your motherboard. Good luck
