Question about Whirlpool Dryers

1 Answer

The dryer may start and then cut off before the middle of the cycle then you have to wait for it to cool down and try again and hope that it will start.

I could think of 3 or 4 things.. but what it sounds like is a thermal overload.. this can also happen when lint blocks the vent and air cant escape causing the sensor to heat up and disconnect the element and stop the machine.. a shop-vac goes a long way when it comes to cleaning out a dryer after removing any access panels..

The washer cuts off midway through cycle and will not start again after pushing start button. It will, however start after a few minutes of wait time.

That is usually an indication of a thermo-switch reaching it upper level. Cuts off everything until things cool down.

In the middle of drying it stops and makes a noise like the cycle is finished and the cycle is not dry yet. Sometimes the dryer doesn't even go on at all. When pushed on it makes a noise like a horn.

Motor I am sorry to say is going bad. After it cools down you can start again for a short time and then the same thing happens again. A great dryer for the money are your Roper dryers sold at all Lowes. Very good dryer with an even greater price.

Kenmore Gas Dryer Gets Hot, Shuts Off Early in Cycle

Sounds like a faulty high limit or cycling thermostat. The thermostat tells the dryer to heat until the interior of the dryer reaches a certain temp. It should be mounted on the exhause duct inside the back of the dryer. It should look something like the one in the picture:

Hope this helped and best wishes.

Dryer will come come on after the first load is dryed. It cools off them it will come on again. What is the problem?

Hi, It sounds like the motor is over heating. It will not start because there is a safety overload switch that will not let the motor start unitl it cools down enough to be safe. Not much you can do except, change the motor. It will eventually stop in the middle of the cycle.
I hope this helps you understand what is happening.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Stopped running in middle of cycle

hi thanks for the question when your dryer stopped and you tried to restart if no noise the over load thermostat embedded in motor is suppose to open and not allow it to start then the motor cools down now it works till the motor over heats again and shuts off again. i would vacuum out the inside clean motor and check the venting right to the outside and try it again but remember do this with power off thanks the appliance doc

Whirlpool dryer

If your dryer stops during its cycle, wait ten minutes and start dryer again. If dryer starts, then the motor was overheating.

Solution, Check for lint blockage around the motor and for possible overloading. If dryer repeatedly stops during its cycle, especially during consecutive loads, replace motor.

Good luck
