An interesting problem you have there! It does seem like it's a bad connection somewhere, so yes. I would suggest that you take apart the screen portion of the laptop and take a look at the connections. It's not too difficult to do that. This guide will help you out: http://www.lcds4less.com/laptop-lcd-removal-instructions.shtml Hope this helps!

Use thin flat blade screw driver for separating the case.
Are you talking about the dust INSIDE the LCD panel? Taking apart LCD panel is VERY DELICATE WORKS, not reccommended.

Just repaired mine. Had a couple of bad caps on the power board.
For disassembly, on the back the two hinge covers will slide off sideways, exposing 4 screws holding the hinge assembly to the monitor. remove that piece and you can get to all three screws holding the plastic monitor shell together. After those three screws are removed, its just snapped together so use a small screwdriver or blade to pry apart. I started at the button area on the bottom and worked up from there. Good Luck.

Gateway (FPD1830) LCD Monitor

It can be bad caps in the power supply, bad inverter circuits (check the green color fuse (F1, 4A 125V) close to the heatsink and a trim pot), bad inverter transformers, bad lamps.
You open it up using flat blade screw driver starting along the bottom edge of the case. Post back what you see insdie so we can guide you further.

NEED TO CHECK FOR BAD CAPS IN VIEWSONIC vp2130

Hello,
To disassemble your monitor follow these steps.
1. Remove the stand, usually 2 to 4 screws
2. Now there will be screws in each corner on the back of the monitor.
3. Take a small flat blade screw driver and seperate the two halves of the case. The front and back are held together by plastic latches spaced several inches apart around all four sides.
4. After the back case is off the boards you will be looking for are under the metal shield, remove the screws that hold it on.
5. Check my web site at www.ccl-la.com , we have pictures of what the bad caps look like if you are not sure.
6. Be sure to replace any capacitors that have raised and blown tops.

I hope this helps, If so please rate my solution.
If you need more info let me know.

Screen blacking out.

Hi, I used to fix a monitor from Dell. There are 4 screws at the back of rear panel and no screw at front frame. If there is no visible screw, you have to look for "capped" screw holes (little covers that fit flush with the case to hide the screws). If you don't see these neither, this must be a tension fit case. So, face the screen up and look for "rectangular hole" on the side edge (usually at the bottom edge of the screen). This will be a challenge to open without breaking it. You'll need a very thin flat screw driver and wedge it into that narrow rectangular hole. You can use any prybar if you don't have screw driver. It is not too deep. You may stab something important inside and pry it. Once it starts to spread, start sliding it along the seem and you should feel the tension tabs start "popping" open. Continue to work your way around until it's off.

For the metal plate that shields the back of the screen, There are some screws you have to deal with. Those screws are at the power and screen connectors.

Thank you,
Tan
