Read the motherboard manual and search it for MSI or Intel or somthing. For the graphic card, if u had one, u can't add another. Remove the older one and add the new one.

Can you add graphics card

Generally speaking, no. Most laptops have their graphics card soldered on to the main board. If you have an integrated graphics card, you cannot add one. Even if the laptop has a discrete graphics card, replacing it is a daunting task. Working on a laptop can lead to ruin if you don't know what you're doing. Even if you do get to the graphics card and remove it, the replacement card can be extremely expensive. In general, it is not worth it to try and upgrade the graphics card, or add a graphics card, to a laptop.
On a desktop, you most certainly can add a graphics card.

When i try and install nhl 2006 i get a message 3d acellrator card did not intialize properly and that i should update my drivers

Graphics card may not be on game compatablity list.
Check games specs at Manufactures web site.
Get updates driver from Graphics card maker.
ATI.com + nVidia.com are most common unless Graphics on Motherboard - which in most cases are not updatable.
You may have add a graphics card if graphics on motherboard -check your system specs-
Most major computer manufacturers use ALL IN ONE motherboards to build thier systems - something to be aware of for gaming.

Adding a graphics card

Hi,
Most motherboards detect an add-on graphics card automatically so all that's required is top plug your monitor into your new graphics card and install the software that comes with it.

Best wishes,

I need a new graphics card for my GATEWAY 4530GZ Laptop.

Hi,
The gateway system that you have has integrated video card on the motherboard. You would not be able to put in add on graphics card on the motherboard. As here is no place for it.
The alternative solution could be to purchase a PCMCIA Type II graphics card , that goes into the PCMCIA slot.

Frankly speaking this would not be a cost effective resolution. it would be good to invest in a new laptop instead.

Thanks for using fixya

I just bought and installed a HIS Hightech H467QS512P Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail. I pasted this from Newegg.com. It is realy fast and is rated the best card for the money in CPU magizine this month. 80 bucks at Newegg with a free World Of Warcraft Game. PCI EXpress 2.0 is backward compatible with PCI Express 1.0 by the way.

Suitable graphics card which would enable me to play games

The problem is that you can't just Upgrade the video card in a portable like you can a desktop system.

Upgrading the video would require a new motherboard with discrete graphics. VERY few portable system have upgradeable video without major cost (Usually cheaper to sell system and buy one configured as you need it) which is my recommendation if that system will not perform as you desire.

Generally, upgrades on portrable systems are limited to MEMORY, HARD DRIVES and plug in components like wireless cards, modems etc.
