hi..i do not know if this is the reason for my probem i am getting with capturing DV just trying to narrow it down i cannot seem to check that my drive is using dma as in the "system properties" for the drive is blank and every time i check it its removed on reboot, but the bios reports on boot up "AWARD" thats it is LBA 46GB UDMA
i was just wondering if this is the cause of not giving me the performance on capturing dv souce clips without dropped frames is there a utilities to check this the bios is set to udma /auto
Pentium 3 256 133mb 9 gb scsi uw (boot disk) 46gb ibm desktar ata100 slot ide1 riva tnt2 pro 32mb
i tried the ibmtools and it made no diffrence to use ata66 or ata100 but i removed the 2 cd drives and the speed access has double to 4001.0kps still to slow any other suggestions as i am now desperately going in circles
thanks

You didn't post what OS you're running under, which would be extremely helpful - but i'll assume you're running under Win98/ME based on your "checkbox" question.
There exists an issue with the Win9x core and UDMA. If the maximum UDMA speed of the drive is different (greater) than what Win9x thinks is the maximum speed of the IDE controller, it will automatically disable UDMA just like you posted.
Try setting the drive up for UDMA/66 (if you don't have the utility grab it at http://service.boulder.ibm.com /storage/hddtech/ibmftool-inst all.exe) and retest it. With a deskstar 46mb you should probably be doing at least 30mb/sec sustained transfer rate in disk inspection test.

On Sun, 25 Feb 2001 01:13:11 -0000, fogg Seems awfully low. A 46 Gb IBM ide disk drive should do in excess of 25 Mb/s at least during burst. I suspect you have a driver problem. Then again, that can be said for almost all windows trouble :-)
Good luck, Jurriaan
