SOURCE: carburettor float level setting

Usually if the float is adjustable you will set it so if there is a flat surface on top or side of the float it will be parallel with the bottom surface of the carb body when the needle valve just closes (before depressing the spring in the needle)

before you go further , check that a neeld is available from a mowers spares
the needle should have a spring loaded section that the float tangs connect to that fits inside the needle body
that allows for vibrations in the float area to maintain constant fuel level
just use needle nose pliers and pull the needle from the housing
it is probably corroded in or the rubber seat on the needle has stuck to the seat

Very difficult to start, new battery, new starter Gas in the cylinder flows out when you remove the spark plug

Your engine is flooding due to the carburetor float and needle having a problem. Do not try to run you mower like this. The fuel gets in the oil, where it acts like a thinner removing oil from critical surfaces. Remove the carburetor, disassemble, inspect and correct the problem with the float and needle. Change the oil, put fuel in tank and monitor level, remove the spark plug, check fuel tank level, turn engine over several times to get fresh oil in place, reinstall spark plug, check fuel tank level (ensure stable level), if all is good, try starting.

I hope this helps.

Hi, yes check the needle, seat and float and blow out the carby, basically with the bowl off and the float held level no fuel should flow past the needle, also check that the air filter is not blocked. Regards Phil

I have a craftsman 48" mower with a 24hp B&S

Carb might need REBUILDING. I would suspect the float may be allowing too much fuel into the bowl and it spilling causing too rich a mixture. Check the float needle valve. You can get rebuild kits. Watch carefully for springs that sproing and pay especial attention the the gaskets as often there are more than one in a kit and some may have extra holes that are either required or not. Another problem MIGHT be the govenor sticking. Check the action of the govenor first. It may need a little lube.

I don't have a setting for that particular carb either. This is not uncommon when dealing with the Japanese carbs. Just set the float level the same as previous year models. The difference in the carbs is the later model had an extra mid-range port in it that fed directly from the float bowl. If you look at the float bowl, you see an extra hole in it. Inside the throat of the carb, you see an extra mid-range port that is kind of down on the side of the venturi. The 'transition ports" are at the top of the carb as well as the idle port.

Good Luck

My 190cc, no primw, no choke engine stalls after a

Clean the carb bowl out. Check for water in fuel. While the carb is open check the float for obstructions and good volume of flow.
Make sure the float height is within spec. You will need to go the BS website and get this spec with your motors model and serial number. Normally floats are good when they sit level at the point the fuel stops flowing.

Good luck and be careful!

How to set the floats on 1980 honda fcivic

YOU CHECK FLOAT LEVEL LOOKING AT THE SIGHT GLASS ON THE RIGHT OF THE CARBURETOR.FUEL LEVEL SHOULD ALIGN WITH THE DOT ON THE SIGHT GLASS.IF THE LEVEL IS ABOVE OR UNDER THE DOT THE CARBURETOR HAS TO BE DISASSEMBLED.TO SET FLOATS REMOVE AND INVERT THE AIR HORN UNTIL THE FLOAT ARM JUST TOUCHES THE NEEDLEVALVE OR THERE IS ABOUT 0.1 mm OR 0.004 INCH CLEARANCE BETWEEN THEM.MEASURE THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE BOTTOM OF THE AIR HORN GASKET INSTALLED.AND THE CENTER OF THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOAT.THE DISTANCE SHOULD MEASURE 36.4 mm 1.39 - 1.47 INCH. ADJUST BY TURNING THE NEEDLE VALVE SEAT.BE CAREFUL NOT TO ALLOW THE VALVE SEAT TO PROTRUDE FROM THE SEAT ATTACHING BOSS.WHICH WOULD ALLOW THE VALVE TO FALL.IF THIS IS THE CASE BEND THE FLOAT ARM SLIGHTLY UNTIL PROPER CLEARANCE CAN BE OBTAINED.WHEN CARBURETOR IS INSTALLED CHECK FLOAT LEVEL BY LOOKING INTO THE CARBURETOR FLOAT SIGHT GLASS I MENTION IN INFORMATION ABOVE.IF YOU HAVE A 1487cc AND 1600cc CVCC MODELS WITH THE KEIHIN 3 BARREL CARBURETOR.THIS WOULD DEALERSHIP JOB.THIS TYPE IS HARD TO ADJUST.

10 year old Craftsman Lawn Tractor won't start

That's really strange. The low-speed fuel adjustment screw may be set way too rich, but that doesn't seem likely. With the air filter off, look at the choke plate if possible as you advance the throttle and see at what point the choke closes. Back it off till the choke opens and then put the filter back on and try to start it at that setting. Another thing that could cause too much fuel is if the adjustment of the carburetor float is off, causing the fuel level to be too high in the carb bowl.

do you have the right fuel filter? some are for pressure and some are for gravity feed, the pressure type (fuel pump) wont flow the gas correctly. another possibility would be the coil.
