My wii keeps freezing

When I start my wii and click on the menu screen it freezes after about 10 seconds. I can't move the cursor on the screen and when I try to turn the wii off with the remote it just shuts its self off. Then I half to walk up to the wii and hold the power for 5-10 seconds. Once it's off the red error light on the power button is on. (I'm connected to the internet/wii connect 24 so it should be yellow) . Has anyone else had this problem and how do I fix it.

    Hello

  • sparky2922 May 24, 2008

I am having the exact same problem. I haven't been using the wii for several weeks. I went to turn it on and it froze on the menu screen after a few seconds. Can't turn it off by remote. When I manually turn it off red light comes on.

Maybe it is overheating... it was pretty warm. I put it in the fridge to chill out for awhile. I'll post if that fixes it.

I am having the same problem, I think this is a major concern to nintendo as they do not have a solution for it, apart for using the remote shake and hit technique, or its the the sensor bar! All of which does not work. It appears to be related to overful memory when connect to WiFi, which opens the door for someone to send through excessively large files, thus clogging the memory and freezing the unit and it appears all you can do is purge the memory by removing the battery and losing all of your saved games wins etc, all of which I am only guessing at and I would only get a proffessional to take out anything but come on Nintendo how about working out a fix for this problem.

There are a few issues with this problem, one of these solutions might help you.

1. Get a camera and turn it on. Aim it towards the right side of your Wii Sensor Bar, and then towards the left side of the wii sensor bar. If your camera has a video output, you should notice 5 dots that blink on the right side (3 lined in the center, and 2 on the outsides of the center), and the same on the left side. My sensor bar had the five lights working on the right side, but the 5 dots sporadically glitching on the left side, which means I needed a new sensor bar. This is a $10 fix.

2. If you use a charger station (one example is by NyKo) those can burn out the wiimote sensors. I have been using it for over two years and not had a problem, yet. The lady said it could cause issues. Most likely not. This is a send wii and remotes in to get fixed, which costs $95.

My game from wii shop keeps freezing.

You should never (very very rarely) have to unplug the wii. If this occurs again hold down the power button for around 10 seconds, it should power off. There is also a red reset switch under the door below the area where you insert the disc. Does it freeze in the EXACT same spot every time?

My wii freezes a few seconds after I start the wii, with or without a disc. The image freezes on the menu and nothing can be done.

Wii freezing up due to message

This is easy, just hold + and - at the black startup screen that comes up when you turn your wii on. This will put it in maitenence mode and disable the message board. From there you can do anything you want with your wii as long as you don't use the message board. Hope that helps.

Nintendo Wii freezing up

I'm not sure that you can reset it to factory without using the menu. However if you have an SD card you might try putting that in. The wii might see that and use that as memory since the wii memory is full and boot up.

Cursor does not appear

exchange it

    Cursor not appearing
Please note that our experience shows that this troubleshooting is best performed using only one (1) Wii Remote at a time.
  • Some games do not use the cursor feature of the Wii Remote; Make sure the game you are attempting to play uses the cursor by reading the game's instruction manual. You can also exit out of the game to return to the Channel Menu and use the Wii Remote to see the cursor. If the cursor still does not appear, continue with the steps below.

  • Trying to use multiple Wii Remotes in the Mii Channel or Photo Channel? These Channels only allow the Wii Remote designated as "Player 1" to function.

  • Verify that the Wii Remote's pointer lens is free of obstructions and contamination (stickers, heavy smudges, etc.). The pointer lens is the tinted rectangle at the end of the Wii Remote.

  • Check the battery power level by turning off the Wii console, then opening the battery cover of the Wii Remote. Press and release the red "SYNC" button to check battery strength. The number of lights flashing indicates the Wii Remote's battery strength. Four flashing lights indicates full strength. Our experience has shown that as your battery strength decreases to one (1) or less lights flashing, the cursor may not appear. For troubleshooting, if possible, try using fresh batteries so that all four lights illuminate. For guidelines on using batteries, please click here. If after inserting brand new batteries, you are still seeing less than all four LEDs flash, then your Wii Remote will need to be repaired. Please click here for repair information.

  • Is the Wii Remote properly synced?
Press the POWER button on the Wii Remote to see if the Wii console powers on.
    • If it does, the Wii Remote is synced with the system. Please skip to the next section.
    • If the power doesn't come on, power on the system manually and try syncing the Wii Remote.
      • If the Wii Remote will not sync, there is likely a problem with the Wii Remote. Please click here for repair information.
      • If the Wii Remote will sync and the cursor still does not appear, try another Wii Remote if possible.
        • If at least one Wii Remote is working, there is likely a problem with the first Wii Remote and it will need to be repaired. Please click here for repair information.
        • If you have only one Wii Remote, or none that are working, please continue troubleshooting.

  • Make sure that the Wii Remote is being used between 3' and 10' directly in front of the TV and that there are no bright light sources affecting the Wii Remote's operation (review Game Play Guidelines for more information), and that the Sensor Bar is placed properly (see Sensor Bar setup).
  • Check the cord on the Sensor Bar for any frayed wires or kinks, and verify that the Sensor Bar is free of obstructions.
  • Check the button functionality, and that the Sensor Bar is operating correctly, by accessing the Wii Main Menu. Use the "+" and "-" buttons to scroll side-to-side through the Wii Channel screens.
    • If you are able to scroll with the "+" and "-" buttons, but the cursor is not appearing, then there is likely a problem with the Sensor Bar. Please click here for additional Sensor Bar information.
    • If there is no response, there is likely a problem with the Wii Remote. Please click here for repair information.
