Hi and welcome to Fixya

Stop or blue screen error are caused by recent software installation or hardware modification. If you installed software recently, try to uninstall the software and observed the problem. If you modify something o the hardware. I recommend to revert the modification and observe the issue.

Let me know if you have questions.

Have a good one!

I have a gateway gx7022e windows xp computer. When i try to boot it up the white letters pop up then the screen goes to the gateway screen and freezes. Then my num lock comes on but my keyboard wont work....

At power on / power up, look for the key during the bootup (black screen with white text), that allows you to enter SETUP. If none designated such as F1, F2 F10 etc, then quickly click the delete button a few times and that may get you into setup. You may have to turn off the computer if you miss that window of time if it rfequires pressing the delete button a few times. Keep an eye out for the Enter Setup key though. To turn off the computer press and hold the power button 'till is shuts down and resart the process until you get to the setup screen in bios. In setup bios environment, look for set factory defaults and then save and restart. That may solve the issue of the lockup.

Hi.....I can't get my Toshiba Satelite M200 to shut down. The blue screen keeps stating shutting down but it goes on for hours. I am using Vista

Windows is so corrupted that it can't shut down properly. The only way to fix that is to save your data and reinstall. And be very careful what program you load after that because it was one of them that has corrupted Vista so load them one at a time with serious testing in between.

During the start up a blue screen will pop up for an instant then the computer shuts down. I cannot start the computer any longer. Is there a way around this issue?

You want to disable "Automatic Reboot" on system failure. This option can be found in "Control Panel"-->"System"-->"Advanced System Settings"-->"Startup & Recovery" "Settings" button.

This will let you see the Blue Screen error and find the file that is causing you problems. When you find the file, Google it and read up. You should be able to find easy fixes to it.

But to get into Windows you will need to boot into "Safe Mode". You do this by pressing F8 repetitively after the BIOS screens...when Windows is loading. If you hit F8 at the correct time, you will be greeted with a black screen with white lettering and a few options.

While you are at it, do a virus/malware scan using the free program at http://www.malwarebytes.org

Hope this helps.

'Safe mode with command prompt'

At the command prompt type

Bootup problem

Your CPU is overheating.

Try and get into the BIOS and increase the fan speed & any aother fan on the system. Don't increase the temperature range, as this will damage the system.

You won't be able to sort out the software problem until the system is running within the hardware limits.

You can also run a office fan to help get the system to cool while making the changes in the BIOS.
