Question about Dishwashers

Whirlpool "Quietflight II" - Will not start. The button for "Delay" works, and the button for "Cancel/Drain" works. Pressing this button will drain the unit. No other buttons will work, however, and the unit will not start. Ideas? I've taken the control panel off and looked at it's guts, as far as I can tell everything looked ok (not burnt and no loose wires), although I am no electrician....

I will try that to see what results I get. In the past couple days, however, the machine/buttons inexplicably worked again, with no problems....but after a couple cycles, it began to do the same thing....I get the feeling that it will again begin to work randomly. Does this narrow it down to any other issues other than testing the control panel buttons?

Have you tried testing the control panel with an VOM meter? You can press a button and test the wiring that would go to that particular circuit. See if you get a reading on the specific wire when that particular wire is pushed. Does sound like a control board issue.

Either door switch, timer, or control panel.

Dishwasher ran all night still not finished. Error code 4H displaying.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. The 4H is indicating your dishwasher is in the delayed wash start mode. Here is some information from Sears about what to do:

  • The number letter combination indicates that the dishwasher is in a "Delay Start" mode, as well as how many hours were set for the delay start.
  • The dishwasher will not start the wash until it reaches the delayed hour that it was set for. Example: 1H = 1 hour delay start, 2H = 2 hour delay start, etc.
    • To start the dishwasher immediately and not wait for the Delay Start time, cancel the "Delay Start" option, by pressing the Cancel button. Then program the cycle and options and press Start.
    • To start the dishwasher after the Delay time, select the cycle and options desired. Select the "Delay Start" option and on some dishwashers it requires, pressing the Start button.
    • Some dishwashers will display a countdown of the delay time on the display.
Note: Refer to the Owner's Manual or Use & Care Guide for specific instructions on using the "Delay Start" feature.

If you need more assistance we will need your exact model number in any of your future responses.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

How to cancel delay start

Press the Delay Start button several times until the displayed delay start time is cleared or reads "00". Unplug the machine or flip the circuit breaker to the OFF position for at least half an hour or so to forcibly reset the control if pressing the Delay Start button does not alter or clear the displayed delay start time.

The only button that works is the cancel drain

Sounds like a keypad malfunction or the control board has gone bad.

I need to cancel a washing cycle in the middle of the cycle.

usually pressing PAUSE/CANCEL twice cancels the cycle and shuts it off allowing you to then re-start the cycle. If not try unplugging it and see if it resets to allow you to start cycle again.
