Question about Computers & Internet

Open Question

Email - When I plug in my 2Wire, it does not powerup as usual. Sometimes the power light is on - sometimes not. If it does light, it's red. No other lights illuminate. I have tried different outlets in my house; it seems random - no pattern. The 2Wire worked without a hitch since it was installed 3 years ago. A Radio Shack guy suggested the 5v-2amp powersupply may be bad . . . Thanks

SOURCE: Toshiba M105-S322 Locks Up

You need to follow some simple steps to boost up your speed. Before using the 3rd party utilities I suggest you to start with windows own utilities. Perform disk clean up,

Start> All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Clean up

Reduce the quantity of startup programs simple type MSCONFIG after open the Run option and enter. uncheck the non essential applications (You can consider non essential all softwares aside hotkey utility and antivirus software). After click on apply and OK restart prompt will appear. "Don't Restart"

Go to My Computer, Right click on C drive and choose "Properties" click the Tools tab and click on the check now button in Disk error checking area. Check both of the boxes when it prompt. And click on OK. It will inform you that system unable to check as its in use therefore it will start when you restart computer. It will perform 5 steps error checking. It might take up to 1 hour.

Once computer start it will be definitely faster. however you have still many ways to choose better performance over some value added features. Like you can choose best performance instead of best appearance at performance settings area. Also you can disable System Restore feature this will increase performance and speed while feature will be not available.

Please post your questions if further assistance needed.

Good Luck.

SOURCE: Bose Wave radio humming noise

Actually the problem was caused by a bad 470uf cap, that was used to filter the powersupply for all the analog amps. Replaced the cap the unit works like new.

Sometimes wont powerup, also has an Intermittent crash, Laptop has to powerup again.

Sounds like you may have bad RAM card(s) or a bad Ram socket.Thew ram cards are located on the bottom side of your laptop, usually accessable by a cover with 2 screws. If you can take off the door and gain access to the cards, try taking both out,and blowing on the sockets where they plug in,then try putting 1 back in and boot up the laptop to see if it does boot,if so,see how long it stays on without power off or crash. If it stays on,then, shut the laptop off, take the ram card out and try in the other slot and start laptop. If it boots up and does not crash, then the other Ram stick is probably bad.You can find that out by trading the Ram stick for the other one. Please let me know how you make out :)

My acer aspire one won't turn on (no lights) after doing firmware flash. When i plug in the power cord sometimes the battery status and power light flashes on.

Try accessing the vendor's page from another computer, saving the firmware update from there and then upgrading yours from a powerup, possibly using a CD as the USB device won't be powered yet, of course.

Mine keeps going all red sometimes it has green powewr light and the rest are all red I have restarted many times even the computer at the same time nothing longer than a couple hours use at the most...

Contact your ISP -- either they are having problems with all their customers in your area, or the 2WIRE router that they supply is "dying", and they should replace it.

2WIRE Single Port DSL Line Filter

i think when you purchased the 2wire modem it usually comes along with 3 sets of single port dsl line filters, try out those other filters see which one works. if the local network light doesn't come on, (are you using 2wire 1000 series?), check the network adapters in your computer, this usually happens when you are using lower versions of OS. try the power outlet in the kitchen / bathroom, if power light doesn't come on, push the reset button for 30 secs. if power light is still off or red, then you may need to replace the modem (check if it's still under warranty, if not you will need to buy a new one.) also you should be using the same power adapter that came with the modem, check the specs. sometimes if the modem is more or less than 3 years old, they could get defective especially if it's often affected by sudden power surges.

Hi Brightside
A couple of things you could try.
1) Switch the router off at the mains power socket or disconnect it. Then leave it off for 5 minutes before reconnecting it. This can sometimes reset things and may clear the problem.
2) Make sure that the connections to and from the router are secure. Unplug them and plug them back in again.
3) Make sure that the telephone line is not faulty and has not developed an internittent adsl connection. You may need the phone company to test it for you.
4) Sometimes connection cables can pick up noise from other equipment, especially if in close proximity to mains wiring. This can cause problems. Try moving the connection cables to a different position. Sometimes only a few inches is enough. Laptop power units for exmple, can be a real source of noise.
Good luck
