My machine makes a knocking sound when sewing and it will sew some in the zig zag position and then all of a sudden all kinds of thread will wad up in the bobbin section.. not sure if maybe it is the bobbin holder that is worn out or something else.. I am so frustrated...

You probably do not have it threaded right on the top, totally rethread your machine, also use a new needle, sometimes they are bent and cause problems. I doubt that your problem is in the bobbin area. Read your manual carefully for the correct way to thread and do read your troubleshooting tips. If, you need a copy of your manual go to www.brother-usa.com and download one for free.(Always nice to have a backup anyway) Also, you can make the diagrams larger on your computer screen. Good luck and happy sewing.

How to Change the needle position in XL2600i brother sewing machine?

The manual should be helpful:

Brother XL 2600 Operation Manual

FWIW, not all machines have a needle "position" function even though they can make a zig-zag stitch. The home position is the center and the zig-zag selector just sets how wide the stitch will be.

I have a Singer sewing machine model 9117. Every time I use the zig zag stitch the machine jams and I cannot continue sewing. Any ideas?

try a new needle

make sure the top thread has not come off the thread take up lever

there could be something wrong with the cam that does the zig zag stitch, if the problem continues you may need to have the machine checked

Sews straight when on zigzag

it's possible the zig zag gear or cam could be worn or damaged
and the machine should be checked to see for sure what's happened.

Zig-zag settings

you probably shouldn't be using a zig zag for that application. But the multi-stitch zig zag.

Please look at page 40 of your manual for information.

As for needle breaking check to make sure your need is the correct one for the thread and fabric. Also make sure your pressure foot is the one recommended for the stitch. Consider this... most thicker fabrics require a longer stitch.

I'm sewing a zig zag stitch and the underside is a perfect zig zag and the upper side looks like it should be the underside....how can I fix this so that the beautiful zig zag is on the top?

FIRST > Make sure your bobbin case is threaded correctly...

NEXT
For normal straight sewing the top tension should be around 5, for zigzag or satin stitch you need to lower your upper thread tension a bit. Try it at 4, if it still pulls your bottom thread to the top try it at 3 etc...

Suddenly zig zag stitch not working?

Because it is almost a straight stitch but the needle continues to move in a zig zag fashion is reason to believe it is in a long stitch. By changing the number of stitches per inch there will be a very noticeable looking zig zag stitch.
