Question about Sony Cameras

1 Answer

Hi, i turned my camera on after a long time of not using it and it didnt turn on normally, the camera seems to be hyper active somehow the lens zooms automatically in/out and rotates and finally it shuts down automatically, however the screen is still on. the screen says to switch it off n then on again.. when i press the button to switch it off, the lens comes out and performs the same action, now the screen is however off, but lens stuck wide open. is there any way of fixing this? any help would be very greatly appreciated,

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

    Hello Skalla

OK, as i suggested, if the solution i provided does not work, you will need to send the camera in to your nearest camera repair store. The camera will need to be opened up, and the lens rings will need to placed back to original position.

I am sorry that the solution provided did not help.

    Kind regards
    Andrea

    Hello

Well, i have not seen the internal damage, so, i can not tell if it needs to be replaced. Best suggestion i can give at the moment is to ask them exactly why they want to replace, rather than to repair. If the explanation sounds reasonable to you, you will be able to decide if you want to replace the broken part, or replace the camera.

    Kind regards
    Andrea

The zoom did not operate normally insert the battery again and turn the camera on. if the camera does not op normally do not put excessive pressure on it and contact the service center i got this error...

The solution is very simple.
you are going to remove the battery (while this screen is on) as the command screen tells.
And your camera should function properly.
I tried it and it worked.

NB; Do not try to close your camera then remove the battery.
Remove it while the camera is still on.

Zoom did not operate normally, insert the battery again and turn camera on again Camera doesn't operate normally

Hi had this problem with my WB100. Zoom would come out then pop back in and say zoom nit not operate normally, please put new batteries in and try again or contact bla bla. What i did when the zoom popped out is i held onto it and didnt let it retract back and turned it back on. It worked after that so i guess the zoom must of been a little forced in when it was in use last in when turned on it wasnt fully going forward. Worked for me so worth a shot

Auto focus at full zoom not responding Nikon D80 with 18-200mm VR

Hi - I own this lens and it manually focuses at all focal lengths (hard to see at 18mm unless your subject is extremly close). You may need to get the lens checked. BTW - Mine was set as follows when I checked for you:
  • D80 was "on"
  • M/A
  • VR = Off
  • Normal (not Active)
Hope this helps!

Cannon G7 need help

Hi
Had the same problem a few months ago. There was a high pitchedwhisltle and I think the screen said "lens fault.turn off camera" or something similar.Bought a G9 to replace as the 7 was out of guarantee but sent the 9 back to the e-bay reseller as it was obviously secondhand with grit around the lens ring and the viewfinder.Ebay never again!.So 3 months ago ago I tried the G7 again with a fresh charged battery before I consigned the camera to the loft.I noticed that each time i switched on the whistle and message was there but the lens extended slightly further each timeso I kept rebooting until the lens was fully extended.Turned the camera off and on again and everything was back to normal. It seems that this may be Canons protocol when a camera goes back. Its been absolutely fine until today. It wont boot up at all.I have tried 2 fresh charged batteries and its dead.Any ideas anyone?

IR-300 Olympus

I had what sounds like the same problem. The camera was dropped and the shutter was stuck open. Just kept showing error message.
As I felt I had nothing to lose I began tapping it on a soft book and the shutter started to appear. I then shut it just using the end of my finger. When I then turned the camera on again it opened and shut when turned off. It has worked fine ever since.
Seems a rather poor design.
Hope this helps. Very best regards Peat.

No picture and lens does not retract

Well some cameras has features that does not use the LCD screen of the camera, because to save battery power or to get better shots with the focus ring.

You can just use the area where you focus your eye to aim and shoot the object of image.

Try to enabled the LCD screen feature.

The Zoom Lens Wiggles 3 times because it is programmed to zoom at the standard zoom size, this is totaly normal for camera in digital and analog types.

Fuji finepix A600 camera - Zoom error

I had the same problem turn up after a few weeks. When I used the zoom button, the lens pushed out again and the camera worked normally for that time. I had to go through that procedure every time I turned the camera on.
I then sent it back on warranty and they replaced the lens assembly as well as the mode dial knob etc.
This camera has a 3 year warranty.
good luck...

Zoom problem

Ive seen this three times and everytime its been something differant. Fist was the rocker switch was jammed. easy fix as dirt was in there. Second was a small serface maounted capacitor in the zoom interface circuit. An third never found the problem as we thought it was a limit switch in the lens itself but the customer never paid for a new lens assy so we didnt order it. Good luck
