Question about Nikon D70s Digital Camera

2 Answers

Nikon 18-70mm I read your post on unjamming a 18-70mm lens, mine has a similiar problem. It is basically stuck from 24-40mm, sometimes it will go to 70 but doesnt zoom to 18 anymore. I would appreciate your help. Thanks Ken

I think this is a really common fault with that lens - usually when it is just out of warranty. The build-quality just isn't great.
Nikon UK took 3 months to fix mine because they were so short of parts and still charged £120 (around £200 at the time).
    Thanks, Nikon.

Mine had to have a flat cable replaced because it was brittle and slowly cracked as the lens moved, interrupting the signal, eventually it even stopped working on Auto!

There are several helical guides in the lens that often work their way loose. A good techincian can repair it quite easily. I see them a lot in my shop and the average repair runs between $70 and $90.

Lens error

Lens errors with these types of point and shoots usually mean the camera is basically dead. The cost to repair a lens error is almost always more than buying a replacement.

However, there are a couple of things you can try out.

1. First try to use some canned air to blow out anything that might be caught inside the lens mechanism. Just spray a bit on the outer part of the lens when the camera is turning on.

2. Turn the camera off. Then try to insert a fingernail inside the lens cover (right on top of the lens glass). Turn the camera on and pull away from the camera with your fingernail. Sometimes the outward force can help unjam the lens.

Lens keeps getting stuck/needs a good tug to zoom past 25 HELP!

Hi Rachael_amor, If the lens will not zoom on the camera will it off the camera? If not then it has some grit, dirt, and the like in the lens. You could attempt to vacuum around the zoom however, I suspect it will need to go in to Nikon. That lens is not well weather sealed, it is a inexpensive consumer lens.

Nikon S200 Lens stuck inside

I had the same issue with my S210, so after reading other people's advice to send it in to Nikon and since that was going to probably cost me as much as the camera itself I figured it wouldn't hurt to try a little something. The lens on mine was a hair off center or had been pushed in on one side (barely - looking at yours you may be able to tell which side) - mine was in my purse also. So, I took my handy dandy skinny prying instrument (normal kitchen butter knife) took the battery out to make it try to open again, then when I popped the battery in as the lens tried to push out I pried the side I thought was a little lower back towards center...I heard a little pop and it worked! The lens came all of the way out and it's all good.

So, use gentle hands and try if you want, but don't think I warranty this!

Nikon 18-55mm lens is stuck , even when not on camera how can i fix it

By "stuck", I'm guessing you mean the focus. Flip the switch on the lens from 'A' to 'M' if it is.
If the lens won't zoom, hand it over to your local camera lab for repair.

Camera lens stuck

Look at some of my posts today.
This may be that the lens is off track and may be able to be pushed back by a little force as you start the camera....see my other posts on this problem.

I dropped my NIKON COOLPIX L10!!

The camera is very probably beyond economical repair (check your house hold insurance for accidental cover though) and I'd advise you to give it a good yank. You will find it sometimes clicks back into place. If its not covered under any insurance you have little to loose.

Lens error coolpix l6

The lens is probably stuck with a piece of dirt or something jamming it. You could gently try and pull on the lens with a slight turn in each direction to see if you can dislodge the particle.

Some individuals on the internet have felt comfortable enough to try and disassemble the camera to reveal the parts of the lens drive mechanism, clean it and put it back together and this sometimes will help (but that is beyond this response) because there are enough locations on the net that describe this.

Since it's 4 months old, you may want to return it for a replacement.

Other alternatives are:
  1. Carefully use some compressed air around the lens mechanism.
  2. Take the camera back and get a replacement, or
  3. Talk to Nikon and get it serviced.

Hope this helps, if it does, please choose FixYa!

ThankYa!

Lens Error - Cool Pix L6 - Camera unuseable

Dont know if this will help anyone. I had a lens error for ages. In my long lasting devotion to google serk I found that many equall contenders found that a strike with a soft book in different directiions solved the problem. I ended up beating the camera from all angles with the palm of my hand. But hey! it worked. 4 months later im looking for the cure to system error 2. If you can help wi that one.
