Replace DVD mechanism for Onkyo DR90

What kind of DVD player would you need to replaced the DVD drive in the Onkyo DR90? I've got one that doesn't work and figure if I just replaced the drive most everything would work. Has anyone taken the DR 90 apart and seen what kind of interface or connection or cables connect the drive and/or what form factor it is?

I also have the same problem. Cleaned optical (with a cleaning disc) and it worked for a few weeks then started acting up again, now won't read at all. ONKYO is no help. Tried their web site.

SOURCE: My Onkyo DR90 DVD Remote Will Not Operate Components

Your Onkyo DR90 DVD Receiver remote control does not have universal remote functions, and cannot be (easily) programmed to control a Panasonic DMR ES15. Your DR90 remote does have a limited learning function, but it is designed to learn the codes from your TV's remote to control the TV. Only the following buttons are programmable by the TV Learning function:

I hope that helps.

Hitachi C10fsh laser doesn't workWhat's your problem?

Hello
If Laser Pickup Unit do not works, it has to be replaced as unit. There is no repair to this part, and only replacement could be done.
I've included picture of both DVD mechanism alongwith laser pickup unit, and idle laser pickup unit here. It will be best to replace the unit with its chasis. 2_28_2012_4_10_53_am.jpg2_28_2012_4_11_29_am.jpg

Getting a C 13 70 disc is dirty message only for DVDs that I'e burned recently. I bought a new pack of blank DVDs, the same kind I've always used, but every movie I burn on these new ones, they...

Hello, welcome to Fixya!

Was this player playing previously? And how long have you been using this player? I suspect the lens of the player. Once the lens of the player becomes weak, it won't play discs any longer.

The first thing my mind goes to, is the lens. The lens id responsible for reading/loading data on discs. So if the lens is unable to read the disc, there is no way the player is going to play the disc.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or probably, a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Good luck.

Dvd "drawer" will not close.

Hello,

The reason the drawer will not shut is because there is a problem on the mechanism that opens and closes the disc tray.

To fix this,

Get the appropriate screwdriver, unscrew the cover, you'll see a mechanism by the side of the opening, you'll see a rubber that controls the opening and closing of the door.

Try to replace the mechanism and it will be in good condition again.

take care

Dvd just keeps spinning making grinding noise, player just says loading

I would unplug the unit and take the cover off, sounds like it could use a good cleaning, you can also lubricate moving components with Vaseline. Reverse the vacuum and blow excess dust from the unit, locate the laser lens and clean with alcohol and dry with a cotton cloth.
Hopefully this resolves your issue.
