Question about Panasonic Televison & Video

1 Answer

I went to watch some recordings the other day to find out the digital display panel was blank. I thought maybe the unit came unplugged. I looked it all over and it had not. I pulled the powercord off of the unit and out of the wall recepticle, and then plugged it back into both. The display came on and read "Please wait". After leaving it like this the rest of the evening and the entire next day and evening, I look at it today and it still read "Please wait". I tried turning on the power, and nothing. I tried to open the disc door, and nothing. What could this be?

Thanks for your answer. However, I did check out with Panasonic and of course, for a charge, they will repair it but will definitely re-format my hard drive. This is a problem for me since I need to retrieve all my home made pictures/movies. I am not that interested in the unit since (as you said) it is not worth it. I already bought a recorder with HDD. I contacted a company to retrieve the data - there is no guarantee but the charges may be enormous. I read in another site that the problem is with 2 capacitors under the HDD and DO NOT replace HDD. I also tried with a Computer repair shop to retrieve the data and he could not read the data because of partitioned hard drive etc. So I am not sure what you had meant by hooking up to my desktop. Also, there is no hook up terminal- it has 4 color-coded wires into a plug- how do I connect it to my desktop? Please explain this part clearer. I am seriously thinking of taking the HDD apart and giving it for repair - just replace the 2 capacitors. As I read on the site I did see 2 capacitors ready to burst out.

Thank you. OK can you help me with fixing the capacitors? I opened up the unit, took out the hard drive and the case and saw 2 capacitors completely out of shape ready to be burst. So right there is the problem. But I am not an electronic 'savvy' person and do not have any special tools. I see that these are soldered from underneath the circuit board and I am concerned on going any further. If it was in top of the board, I could have tried out. Please help me with any suggestions

OK I think I can handle the soldering pump and the gun (though I am not familiar with pump, I can buy both from Home Depot). I am still not sure how to take the board out. I do not see any screws for it. Also, I did not understand what you meant by special screwdriver. Also where should I use it and what is holding the board?

The processor of the unit has crashed ant it can't no longer boot. This is caused by either a hardware failure - most probably the processor itself has failed - or, for some unknown reason , the firmware was corrupted.
Either way the unit must be sent to a repair shop, there's nothing you can do to fix it. If the unit is older than 4 years just don't bother with that, the repair will cost more than the unit is worth. Take out the hard disk, put it in your desktop and view whatever is still there. Then get a new recorder.

By hooking up i meant connecting it to the mainboard just like any other hard disk - use a linux distribution to read it, the disk is formatted in ext3 - a Linux format. Probably this is why the pc repair guys were unable to read it.

Yes, those capacitors are known to fail - if you can replace it yourself it would save you a lot of money. All you need to access them is a screwdriver, all you need to replace them is a fine heting pistol and 2 new identical capacitors.

This isn't a difficult job - you will need a solder pump (to take the capacitors out without overheating the board) and a soldering gun with a fine tip. You must remove the board to access its underside - just a special screwdriver is needed (nothing else to remove or disconnect) ; recommended but not obligatory, a flat one will do the job with a little persuasion

The board is fixed with some special Torx screws - at least in the European models on which i worked they are. You need to take them out to release the board.

Hi there,
battery corrosion can be a killer. If the corrosion has gone past the battery compartment, you have little chance in repairing the unit your self. You could send it to Sony. Before disposing of the unit, try to spray some contact cleaner on the circuit. Cheers.

I have a whirlpool built in oven. Model RBD275PDQ8. The display (control panel) went blank 2 months ago. I reset the breaker, nothing. Pushed buttons, it just beeps. 3 days later I pushed the upper oven...

it's the control panel behind that touchpad item. and it's not too difficult, just time consuming. My recommend is to grab a service manual online(usually around 20.00) which will provide good step by step, and also parts list.

spares? well, that's a good question. Until you have that part number, and the best way is to eyeball the one that's in side your unit(no offense to the printers, but mistakes can happen with manuals).

then you'll find out what it's like to be truly handy, eh?

When I use the timer to record a TV show with my DVD-R155, unit locks up.

If you can afford it purchase a TIVO. I had a a video and dvd player and it drove me mad. This unit records 2 programs at once with just the press of a button.
you can watch tv at the same time. Also you can rewind situations on live tv to watch it again. Top unit. I am 73 and I have no problem using it. Love it!

Unit will not turn on. Display is blank.

Power supply is the problem. If not under warrenty, open the cover and look for blown capacitors. If there are, try replacing those or have them replaced. Might solve your problem

My oven is locked, after it self cleaned itself. How do I unlock my oven door?

I had this problem but my digital display went blank also. After searching the internet it seems to be a common problem. I changed the FIXED THERMOSTAT . Part # 8300802. It looks like a large watch battery with to electrical connectors affixed with 2 screws. I unplugged the power and shut the gas off. Took off the back metal sheet panel at the back . ( 10 screws ) . I noted which wire went where and replaced it . Put the sheet panel back , plugged it in and turned on the gas and it was good to go. It took 15min. tops. I got the part supplier to print me off a diagram so I knew what I was looking at but if you get the part first you will know soon as you take the back metal sheet panel off. It's the only thing back there.

KitchenAid Architect Series KEMC308KSS

check your power connections at the junction box, the unit for the clock is only pulling an amp at the most, but when you try to use the ove your putting the electrial connections under a load and if not tight or right will cut off the display and main cpu unit
there is a loose connection somewhere
