Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

Kenmore Frig - Evalerator Fan issue. I have a 596.70003000 model and had an issue with the Evaperator Fan. I thought it failed but after replacing it still did not work. I review the scematic and found there is a Fan Delay bypass test plug so I connected a wire and bypassed it and now it works fine expect it never shuts off. The frig and freezer are both running a normal temps and I see no excessive frost in the freezer. I am suspecting the defrost timer or the door switch. I don't see a fan delay anywhere on the scematic. What can I do to fix this.

I was thinking of just leaving and now that I bought a fan for no reason I guess I have a backup. One thought to perhaps narrow it down. When I first tested the fan I took it out to the bench and blew it out with air, tested with 120 and it worked. I should have believed itwasn't the fan at the time but after I installed it and it worked for a while but then stopped again I assumed the fan was flackey so I replaced it. That said if it's one of the two and I know it worked sometimes with the door open it seems like it failed to resart after the defrost timer cycled so I am guessing it's the timer and going to play parts swapper in a few days once I am certian it's nothing else. think that's a reasonable first guess?

    Thanks for the quick reply.

You are right it could be either the door switch or the defrost timer...but the only way to tell would be to actually ohm out the two and see which one it actually is...or become a parts changer which many techs are... and just change parts till you hit the right one....
Me..I would probably just let it jumped out and forget about it...the fan usually runs anyway and the only real problem with it running all the time is the defrost...but if it aint causing a problem the I wouldn't fix it...

My bet would be on the defrost timer though...:-)

Bosch frig/freezer fan icing up... How can I stop the problem?

This could be caused by 1 of 2 problems.
1. Your evaperator coils could be clogged with dust. Clean with a vacuum hose.
2. If that is not the problem, the freon pressure is probably low and this is caused by a leak. This would require a professional repair person. How old is the frig? Sometimes they are not worth the repair cost.

My frig is extremely hot to the touch on the metal face that separates the freezer and frig. Any thoughts on what might be causing this problem. If it helps, we just moved the frig from another home. ...

Likely the cooling fan has died. This happened on my unit. The fan is visible from underneath on the rear left side. Use a flashlight to see if it is spinning. I used a broom handle to tap it and it started to run, which cooled the metal you found hot. I ordered the part on line and replaced it. Heating problem went away.

Maytag performa bottom freezer works but upper

First you should make sure your Evaperator fan is working. Open the freezer door and press the door switch in and see if you here the fan running.

If you dont here the fan you might have a fan motor problem.

We have a Kenmore model 596.71864101 that is probably around 10 years old. The freezer is doing what it should but the refrigerator is not cooling. It did the same thing a few weeks ago, but suddenly...

There is a fan in the rear of the freezer that delivers cold air to the frig. Turn temp control down to make the freezer call for cold, the fan should also turn on, even if the door is open. This is an easy self install if it is the fan.

Freezer is fine. Fridgerator portion does not cool .

The most likely cause is a bad evaperator fan motor. It is mounted in the freezer section. It blows the air up to the ref section. Open the freezer door and listen to see if you hear any fan noise.

Fan works light works but no cooling in either the freezer or refrigerater

The fan in the back of frig will run. Try replacing the evaperator fan and if the evaporator fan does not work replace the thermostat.

Clean the coils.

If you have then there is a small fan that blows air across these coils, it is on when your freezer turns on. This would allow you to see if fan works. (usually when the fan fails you loose your freezer, bad repair people won't tell you to check fan)

Seals are a big issue. A good test put dollar bill into the door and try to pull out with door closed. It should be hard to remove. Seals are cheaper than new frig. A small air leak will lower cooling
