The problem with the smell is that the macerator air switch manufactured by Lafoo has a diaphragm in it that tends to sag with time. The switch is mounted vertically instead of horizontally on the circuit board, which is the preferred method of operation. Huge mistake by Saniflo. This prevents the macerator from switching on properly and the unit tends to fill up to high causing the smell. The Lafoo air switch is 5.5mbar and actually has a built in adjustment dial that can be seen when one removes it from the circuit board. The solution (besides putting in a 3.5mbar Lafoo switch) is to unsolder the original switch, solder two 2" pigtails onto the switch and soldier the pigtails back onto the board. This will give you enough room to have the switch hang horizontally and allow gravity to help assist in triggering the diaphragm in the switch. Also, you will also now have the benefit of being able to adjust the sensitivity of the switch if need be depending on the atmospheric pressure where you live. The pressure side (air tube) should be on the top and not the bottom. After you make this modification, your Saniflow will work better than new and the smells will immediately dissapear. The switch will now trigger every time your flush the toilet or when the water level in the unit reaches the proper height. An enzyme type cleaner (used in RV's) will help descale any sludge in the unit but the main issue is with the air switch and how it is mounted. If you need pics of how the unit should look after it is modified, e-mail me at mrizzo@liquecolor.com My wife now has her own bathroom back!

I have a 99 chevy lumina 3.1 engine it starts up great but it smell of fumes from exhaust pipes after a while it cuts off

The problem you describe is almost certainly a bad/stopped-up catalytic converter. Not fuel line, not trunk seals, not head gasket or anything else. The fuel line answer is just wrong. If your catalytic converter is bad or stopped up, you will also almost certainly need to replace the Oxygen sensor as well.

You didn't say it smells like rotten eggs or sulfur, but that is the most commonly-stated description...it isn't accurate; a bad converter smells like a bad converter. Most people find the odor similar to rotten eggs or sulfur. A clogged exhaust system will shut an engine off after a short time due to backpressure and excessive temperature buildup.

Your check engine light should also be on. Read any diagnostic codes the PCM has set. I'm fairly sure your problem is the catalytic converter...

I have in Intertherm gas furnace. The system runs, hot air comes out of the vents, but it smells like burnt plastic, and the red light on the circuit board is lit up...

There is a short circuit developing in an electrical circuit in the furnace. Do not turn it back on and call a service technician to examine it.

Gas or exhaust smell through vents

This is normally a problem with the air and fuel mixture as your fuel injector may be sending too much gas through the engine and not all is burning. This can easily be fixed by having your engine properly tuned.

Hi every now and again we are getting a sewer smell from our bathroom we have only recently moved in the house so not sure what to do, but it doesn't seem to happen all the time and everything flushes okay...

The smell may be coming from the sink trap if there is a problem with the vent pipe (that's in the wall from the sewer line to the roof). Do you ever hear gurgling in the sink drain when you flush? When you have the smell again, stick your head in the sink and see if that's where it's coming from. If you have a floor drain, the smell may be coming from there. In either case, a bit of water added to the drain will fill the trap and stop the smell. Please vote if you found this helpful. Good luck, Al K
