Hi, is the Maytag Legacy Series included in the recall???? My Washer makes a loud noice right after it starts agitating. Like metal hitting metal. Shortly after I purchased it the pump had to be replaced.

The drum should be on center. It sound like a damper pads issue. The damper pads are located beneath main support housing on base's machine. Check that they are on place and not broken. Good luck !

Tub bearings and seal have failed. My SAV405DAWW just started with the loud grinding and I am now in the process of finding out if I can fix it myself. Kurt

most likely your problem is in the pump either the pump itself is bad or there is something jammed in it, remove and inspect pump replace with new one if necessary.

Maytag legacy series washer
The drive motor which spins the drum is connected to the drum by a rubber belt. Sounds like the belt is burned through. Make sure you can spin the inside tub by hand to verify that the tub can turn freely before you replace the belt. The hum is from the drive motor just spinning freely.

HI. The culprit will be the transmission. it has locked up, due to gear failure. The necessary actions are to replace the entire transmission assembly. The part number for your new assembly will be 35-6615. I have also included the necessary service manual that will guide you through the replacement procedure, as well.

If in fact the seals and bearing have gone bad the repairs can be expensive indeed.
Maytag does have a program that gives you warranty for 5 years on the transmission itself and such repairs can be counted as such.
I would check with Maytag to see what kind of reimbursment they can give you (www.maytag.com)
