DVD-Rom drive doesn't work.

My disk drive tray is not opening by eject button. Took out the disk using paper clip. Tray closes by eject button. Replacement disc can't be played. This situation arised when trying to keep a record copy of a video film. Checking by 'My computer'>drive properties>it says "this drive is working properly". Checking with Nero cd-dvd speed- disc is turning & giving many results. While checking 'disc quality', it gives 'error initializing test'. With 'Bench mark' check, gives 'error! unrecovered read error(031100). 'Nero disc info.' gives 'no disk inserted or drive not ready'. My compu'r has hardware- dvd-rw drives of 'Maxtor 6Y160m0' & dvd/cd-r drive of 'Philips dvd+rw dvd8631'. Any help will be very much appreciated. I've Dell-dimension 5000, P4 processor 530, winXP-SP2 home- 3yrs old. Thanks

I just purchased The Maxtor 4 mini external drive. All my Dell Inspiron 2650 will do is put up a Found New Hardware MTP Device box in the lower right hand corner of the screen by the other icons. The mini 4 is not listed in Start all programs and hitting the Found New Harware box does nothing. How can I grt this Maxtor mini 4 to be recognized, as it was one time, again?

I have just bought a Maxtor 4 mini external hd 160. I plug it into two USB ports and connect to the Maxtor mini, and all that happens is that I get a New Hardware Found MTP device box, by the other icons in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Nothing happens after that. I clicked on the box and still nothing happens. How can I install this Maxtor mini 4 external HD on my Dell 2650?

Go to "My Computer" and right-click the icon representing the drive, then select "Eject." If that works, you know your drive is OK.

Computer won't run disk

If this is a cd/dvd drive you are referring to
Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem
"you only need to do the following"
if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

T652n 202.03 paperjam

1Open the upper-front cover and remove the toner cartridge.2
Look into the printer. Remove any jammed sheets of paper that you find there.

  • If the print job only consisted of this one page, reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover. Press the pattlnk_10162008_2247-select_button.jpg button to clear the error, and then try printing again.

  • If the print job consisted of more than one page, confirm the entire paper path is clear before printing again. Do the following:

    1. Remove the top paper tray ('Tray 1').
    2. Remove any jammed or partially-fed sheets of paper you find here, then reinstall the tray.
    3. Go around to the back of the machine and open the upper-rear cover. Remove any jammed sheets of paper you find, then close the cover.
    4. Once you have confirmed that the entire paper path is clear, reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover.
    5. Press the pattlnk_10162008_2247-select_button.jpg button to clear the error, and then try printing again.

  • If you cannot locate any jammed paper under the toner cartridge, then check the rest of the printer for any jammed paper. Do the following:

    • Remove the top paper tray ('Tray 1') and look for any jammed or partially-fed sheets of paper.
    • If you do not find any jammed pages there, reinstall the tray and go around to the back of the machine. Open the upper-rear cover and look there.
    • If the entire paper path appears to be clear, close the rear cover and power off the printer. Reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover. Power the printer back on. If a 200 error continues on power up, a sensor in the printer may be malfunctioning. This will require a service call to correct the issue. I have a Dell tower & my son knocked out the cd tray. How do I get it back in?

first you have to open the cabinet then remove the screw in both sides which is connecting the cd rom and remove the Molex connector that is bringing power to cd drive from smps and the Ide/ sata connector from the back of the cd rom and take it our carefully from your IBALL tower through the front ........ Assuming plastic/electronics didn't physically break, it would be a simple fix. CDROMS can be tricky to take apart but I think you can do it boss
1)First you have to unscrew all the thin star screws from the bottom and then slide the steel panel to approach the chip panel (IC)
2)Then there will be a slider like thing in the black panel you can use the screw driver to slide it to the right ... By doing that you can either open the cd tray or close it if its stuck or some thing ...
3) you can remove the clip in the both sides of the cdrom and remove the front panel which containing brand name by removing that you can remove steel panel in the top like we did in the bottom now you can have a clear view
4) Analyze if the two white colored plastic which is helping to open and close is working /broken or the rubber around the motor is working/ broken ,you can replace the rubber part if that is casing problems or you can carefully glu broken parts
please rate me if this helped you brother!

Will read cd but doesn't play dvd

Hard drives are used for storing files or loading applications. A CD-Rom drive is what you need to read cd's and a DVD-Rom drive which can read both. You cant place a cd, dvd or blu-ray disc into a hardrive because it is enclose and does not have and open/close button for the tray to eject or close

If you drive is not showing up in My Computer but is showing in Device Manager you may need to reasign a drive letter to the drive. The links below will help you do this.

How to change your drive letter in Windows XP

If you if does not fix the problem they you could have a Windows/driver problem or a hardware problem. I would try to connect the drive to another port on your computer and/or try the drive in another computer. If it works then you may have a motherboard or Windows problem.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

Disk is stuck in CD player and won't eject

Straighten out a stout paper clip and insert it into the very small hole on the front face of the drive. Press it in firmly and this will unlock the tray for you. Gently pull the tray out and remove the disk. Reboot the computer and test the drive.
