GHOST MESSAGES IN MY INBOX

Recently, I asked Gmail to activate Mail Fetcher send everything to what I will call my # 1 account, from my # 2 account, also a Gmail account and address. There have never been any messages in the # 2 account, or none that I could see notifications for, so this was for future action. Now, my # 1 a/c Inbox says there are 31 e-mails there, but no amount of whatever I do opens them. However, when someone sends me an e-mail direct to the # 1 a/c, they come through in the normal way. The Inbox total goes up from 31 to .... whatever, and once I have viewed those from 32 onwards, it reverts to "31 messages". I can't find any way either to see those messages, or to tell the #1 a/c Inbox to delete them

I don't use Outlook or Outlook Express - I don't need to. Gmail is web-based so I access it direct. But thanks for the thought anyway

  • JGCARMELIN May 29, 2008

This does not change things I am afraid. My primary a/c inbox still says "31" and I still cannot access them. Both addresses are g-mail, yes. What I really want to do is tell my inbox to delete those 31 messages that I can't access, because I no longer care where they came from. But I don't want to delete my entire inbox. Impossible.

The best possible solution, instead of forwarding emails from A/c 2 into A/c 1 is to use Gmail Notifier.

The Gmail Notifier is an application that alerts you when you have new Gmail messages. It displays an icon in your system tray to let you know if you have unread Gmail messages, and shows you their subjects, senders and snippets, all without your having to open a web browser. You can then directly access your Inbox on a browser with on click

Try it..its what I use. As for the 'ghostly' 31 messages, not really too sure. Maybe a quick note to GMail support may help. Could be a server side issue.

Hope that helps..

There was a tab or link there which you should click, it is possible that the email was send as a reply or just forwarded to you, -or- the email address of the senders was already at the list of your inbox..

kindly wait and i will illustrate it here for you..

Thanks

If you only want to receive new mail sent to your other Gmail address, we suggest setting up automatic forwarding:

    1. Sign in to Gmail with your secondary Gmail address (the one that receives mail you want forwarded).
    2. Click Settings and open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
    3. In the Forwarding section, select Forward a copy... and enter your primary Gmail address.
    4. Click Save changes. From now on, mail arriving at your secondary Gmail address will automatically forward to your primary Gmail address.

I want a new gmail account

Are you trying to create a second Gmail account to use with an existing Gmail Account?

Let's say you have two big uses for Gmail: one you use with friends and family/for fun and one that you use more professionally. It is definitely possible to read mail and send mail from both within one inbox. Here's how:

(Let's call that more personal account your primary account and that professional one your secondary account)

Create that second account
The first step should be to create the secondary account if you haven't already done so. To create a secondary account, go ahead and sign out of your primary account. Click the "create an account" link and get started.

To receive emails from the second account
Next, in order to see emails sent from your secondary to your primary account, you should set up forwarding. Keep in mind that you can also forward emails from your primary to your secondary account should you want all messages from both emails in both inboxes. To set up forwarding:

1. Click the gear in the top right.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
4. Click Add a forwarding address in the "Forwarding" section.
5. Enter the primary email address
6. For your security, we'll send a verification to that email address.
7. Open your primary email account (signing out of the secondary account), and find the confirmation message from the Gmail team.
8. Click the verification link in that email.
9. Back in your secondary account, refresh the page.
10. Select the Forward a copy of incoming mail to option and make sure your new forwarding address is listed in the first drop-down menu.
11. In the second drop-down menu, choose what you want Gmail to do with your messages in that secondary account, such as keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox or archive Gmail's copy.
12. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Now, you should be able to see emails from both accounts in the same spot.

To send emails from the second account
Last, in order to send out emails from the primary and the secondary account in the same inbox, you should set up the "send mail as" feature. To set up the send mail as feature:
1. Click the gear icon in the top right
2. Select Settings
3. Select the Accounts tab (or Accounts tab, if you're using Google Apps).
4. Under Send mail as, click Add another email address.
5. In the 'Email address' field, enter your name and alternate email address.
6. Choose one of two options:
7. Use Gmail's servers to send your mail (this is easier to set up)
8. Use your other email provider's SMTP servers (we recommend this option for professional mail accounts or domains). Note for Google Apps users: Depending on your domain type, this feature may be disabled by default. Talk to your administrator if you have any questions.

Now, when you're sending an email in your inbox, simply click "from" and choose which email address you'd like to send from.

Email in my gmail account is not being received by me. Others tell me they have sent messages but I do not see them.

Firstly check your spam/junk folder to make sure that they are not being intercepted and diverted there.
Secondly, check account is "active" by sending yourself an email.
If these 2 work okay then ensure that you are giving people the correct details...... maybe send them all an email (individually) so that they can "add" you as a contact to avoid any mistakes

You can combine multiple Gmail accounts into a single, primary Gmail account by using the POP3 Mail Fetcher application built into Gmail.

The Mail Fetcher enables you to retrieve email from POP3 email accounts, including Gmail, and send mail as if from a different email address all from within your primary Gmail account. Configure your primary account to manage your other Gmail accounts with the Mail Fetcher.

Sign in to the Gmail account that you want to use to manage your Gmail accounts.

Click the "Settings" icon, represented by a gear cog, in the top left and click "Mail Settings."

Click the "Accounts and Import" tab.

Click the "Add POP3 Email Account" button.

Enter the email address of your secondary email account and then click "Next Step."

Enter the password of your secondary email account and then click "Add Account."

Click the radio button beside "Yes, I want to be able to send email as
[SECONDARY EMAIL ADDRESS]" and then click "Next Step."

Enter the display name for your secondary email address and then click "Next Step."

Click "Send Verification" and then check your secondary email account.
Click the link contained in the verification email to confirm the integration of that account with your primary Gmail account.

All mail sent to your secondary Gmail is now delivered to your primary account, and when responding your secondary Gmail address is displayed in the From section of the email.
