Can be a settings problem with a special effect turned on or a conversion lens, see manual. however, I am having a problem with the flash staying permanently off on a Sony hdr-sr11 and I have checked the menu settings...flash option is grayed out on the settings as well.

Found solution (via another website) for my hdr-sr11, the UV protection lens I added presses in on a switch in the threads...had to loosen to allow flash to work. They are trying to do a favor for the user by preventing the flash from coming on if a conversion lens is screwed on which would block the built in flash next to it.

Was dropped. Now will do everything EXCEPT take photos. Lens, display, flash, etc. etc. all work fine. Just no screen image or photo when in "shoot" mode.

Sounds like the CCD or a stuck shutter blade. Try this place: www.CamerasAndParts.com They only service Canons and they are the only place we recommend for the Canons. It's all they work on and they are about half the price of most shops, plus the work is just excellent through them.

Turns itself off every time I try to take a photo

I had a similar problem with my Cyber-shot S600. It just turned off every time I tried to take a photo. I bought a Sony recharger + batteries and it fixed the problem. Camera works fine and I'm impressed with the how long the batteries last between charges.

The K850i’s xenon flash means that it can take reasonable shots in the dark and the BestPic mode, which takes several photos in the space of a few milliseconds and lets you pick the best one, is great for capturing action shots. The K850i’s high-contrast screen is ideal for previewing photos before you transfer them to your PC, too.

try self timer and leave it on a flat surface and check once again

It won't take the photo

Is there a memory card in the camera and has it been formatted? Did you focus on something by pressing the shutter halfway? Common photographers problem too is forgetting to remove the lens cap. Baarring anything obvious, take it to a reputable camera shop, If theres nothing wrong with it, most likely they wone charge you anything.

Menu Problem

Did you try calling Canon tech support or returning to retailer if the camera is really not functioning properly this soon after purchase, I'd try returning it once all troubleshooting issues have not resolved the issue.

Hope this helps!
