Question about Computers & Internet

Open Question

Have a Hanns g Model HSG 1041 monitor for several months. Like it. No problems. Today after turning pc on the screen's image came up 1/2 inch low. I can see while on my desktop 1/2" black on top of screen and can't see the "Start" button on left bottom side nor time icon on right bottom side. How can I move the image up 1/2" so I can again see the whole screen?

Hi Colesy, it could be that your horizontal driver (IC CHIP) is going bad. There are two IC's that expand the picture on the screen. One for horizontal and one for vertical. When one of them starts to go bad, the screen starts to "squeeze" in on the top/bottom or sides. Eventually, there will just be a small line in the middle from top to bottom. You may need this IC replaced. I am not sure on the cost of repair should you have it done at a shop, but it could be prohibitive and you may just end up buying another CRT. Check around.

Most LCD monitors have a couple of control buttons at the top or on the side. Inside the menu, there should be an option called "Auto Adjust" which senses the input signal and resolution, and then shifts the monitor to match it. Have you tried to auto-adjust the screen? There may even be a button called "Auto" on the monitor.

The CRT has screen adjustments, there is a screen adjustment button on the monitor that will allow you to adjust the width of the image as well as the height etc.

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Take it to a repair shop.

Have a HannsG hsg 1041 monitor which started going black after 2 years. I have seen references to a power problem. Can it be fixed? I love that monitor!

The problem is in the power supply board caused by at least one bad capacitor that is open. In some cases it will bulge at the top leaking the contents out.

For the past few weeks my Hanns G 19 inch LCD monitor keeps having troubles displaying a screen. It constantly makes a loud sound that it repeats and it takes several hours before the green light appears...

From the description you give, this sounds like a failure in the circuit board, normally the capacitors go and the thing refuses to power up, however, the fact it defaulted to a low resolution indicates that the actual board is in some way failing, possibly a damaged circuit, or component.

I would think it could be repaired and it may be a simple job for someone who can identify the failing component, however, I think that the cost of getting it repaired would outweigh the cost of replacement

Go into monitor settings and turn "off" X-Contrast. X-Contrast will auto change contrast when backgrounds darkens. However, adjust manually the Brightness and Contrast settings to compensate.

I have had the same problem, but noticed something while moving cables. When I tap on the side of the screen, near the control buttons, it fixes it. You know like in the old days when your tv wasn't working, a good bang on the side of it got it working again? :) Anyway, that tells me it is a loose connection problem, internally, and not a heat problem. I will have to open the thing up to get more detail. Not today.

I think this should be a problem with the CPU and not the monitor, Is there a continuous beep sound coming , If so then there is a problem with the Memory.

LCD Monitor

Mine had the same problem. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didnt. It really annoyed me. I tested my PC on another monitor, it was fine. I checked my monitor on another PC, it worked fine. We eventually found out it was just the VGA cable. So i would advise just trying another VGA or DVI cable and see if it works.
Hope this helps. Good Luck
