Question about Dacor Epicure ERD48 Dual Fuel (Electric and Gas) Kitchen Range

1 Answer

I have a Dacor EDR48 dual fuel range. The gas broiler in the oven has stoped lighting. The ignigtor will glow bright orange, and if you open the door the traped gas will ignite and burn your eyebrows. shut the door and the burner will not light, open the door and whoosh again. what is goin on with this? It seem to me that if you have gas, and a hot igniter, you should have a hot broiler. thanks

The most often possible cause when you have broiler lighting with door open and shutting off when door is closed is that the burner gas Jet ( the brass nut sticking up into the end of the burner tube with tinny hole in the centre ) need cleaning. By using a very thin pin you can insert it in the jet hole so any burned oil or fat that make the hole more tinny that it was will open again and the gas pressure will be enough to create a flame as normal.

You should take precautions with all this gas around the room to have a goo ventilation wait some time to have fresh air in the room and then try anything. If you have gas gather around in the room stop and ventilate again.

Oven quit working. stove top works

the oven has a glow plug to ignite the gas. remove bottom tray in oven, and turn it on. if glow plug does not get hot, it should be a bright orange color. replace the glow plug if it does not operate properly. if you do it yourself. be very careful. the glow plug is very fragile and must be handled with care. Ive broken one before! just a slight tap will break them. good-day! ( for electric ovens).

even though the ignitor seems to glow bright orange,it still maybe weak,as in not enough current to open the gas valve,an easy test is to just swap out or interchange the broiler ignitor and bake ignitors and see if this takes care of your issue on the lower bake side as most units use the identical ignitor for each upper and lower manifolds and the gas valve supplies both the bake and broiler manifolds depending on which you choose to use bake or broil

Oven will not light ,broiler and top of range light fine

the ignitor is not working its bad,you should see a bright orange glow below the oven base just as when you start the broiler look up at the top of the oven and watch this ignitor glow before ignition, the bottom should do the same, you can also see this from the back side of the range at the base,if you don't use the broiler you can use that ignitor for the oven ignitor as these ignitors are identical, but then you will have no broiler

It could be the oven ignitor which is located under the heat displacement shield if you have a voltage meter or a multimeter do an ampere test should first shut the gas off next locate the oven ignitor or bake ignitor and you will see two wires that go to the ignitor clip around one of the wires should be reading 3-3.3 amps any less then this and the oven will not light even if it read 2.9 it would still be a weak ignitor and need to be replaced because it would not be lighting the gas when it was supposed to check your oven ignitor and message me back with your finds And please remember when our chat is concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation Thanks again and Happy New Year

ERSD36S09 Dual Fuel Dacor; broiler doesn't work

I had a similar problem. My broiler wouldn't light but the igniter was glowing. It turns out this igniter has to glow virtually white hot. If it's red or orange it probably needs replacing. I bought a new one from Appliance Parts Pro's. However, when I look at pictures of these things they all look exactly the same. My guess is all appliance manufacturers use the same unit.

To change it on the Dacor you need to pull off the back panel. Loosen the unit inside by removing the screws and shake the wires so someone else can see which ones. Disconnect the wires from the connectors and tape a piece of thickish string to it. This allows you to pull it out from inside the oven and have a way to get it back in past all the little turns and corners. My replacement had bare ends so I cut off the old connectors and soldered them to the new unit. However, I would guess you could use wire nuts instead.
