Question about Futaba 7c Computer Radio Air R617fs S3152 Servo

1 Answer

I have had my new futaba 7c for over one year but have not used it until now. The problem that I am having is that I cannot get the screen to work. The batteries have been fully charged and the transmitter and receiver have been paired with no problems at all and all of the servos are now working, but I am still unable to get the screen to work. I am hoping that you are can help me with this problem.

It's entirely likely that the LCD has been faulty from the day you bought your 7c and if you'd checked it sooner would have discovered this. Ordinarily, you'd have just returned it to the store for an exchange or refund or possibly sent it to Futaba for repair under warranty but as you've had it over a year now these options are both closed.

You're going to have to either return the unit to Futaba for repair, or burrow into it yourself. As you're an aeromodeller you should have the tools, skills and ability to methodically dismantle your unit; the object is to get to the LCD connection to check whether the connector plug has become dislodged. Basically just unplug it and reconnect it, ensuring that the pins are undamaged.

However... You need to consider carefully whether to do this or not. If the LCD screen is non-functional the unit will need a new LCD panel (or even a pcb) and they're proprietary to Futaba who don't usually supply them as a spare part. Also, Futaba are very good at offering goodwill repairs for this kind of fault (especially if you point out how long you've been using their gear for) and your chances of this vanish if the warranty seals are broken or if there is any sign at all of unauthorised repair attempts.

Finally, if you purchased from a UK supplier then the Sale of Goods Act applies. This basically means that you have a claim against the retailer for up to six years (five in Scotland) from the purchase date if goods are not of durable quality considering the price paid and the expected service life. Retailers aren't very keen on this and will often claim that as the manufacturers warranty has expired there's nothing they can do, but they are wrong. If you need to pursue this route and purchased from the UK then let me know and I shall give you further details.

KDS radius 17"LCD RAD-7C shuts off during boot and won't come back on (mostly)

I am having the same problem and this seems to be very similar to the problem these users are having but that is a different screen. So I was hoping someone would have more info on this specific monitor. I am seeing no budging capacitors on my boards.
