Hello Billyboy5625,

It looks like the mounting bracket for this radio is available on the manufacturer's website at http://www.raymarine.com/.

Click Customer Support > Find Parts and then search for "Ray 45." The mounting bracket and installation kit both show as available.

Best regards,
Ken

Every thing seems to work, but no sound and no squelch

Most likely an open speaker, though water damage to volume/squelch controls is also a possibility. This can be checked by removing the knobs and inspecting the shafts for corrosion.

2-way radio causing voltage to spike

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your described problem indicates that the RF from the Motorola is being received by the electronic regulator of the alternator and is erroneously factored in as sensor/triggers. Simply stated, the RF causes the regulator transistor to conduct more allowing higher voltage output. There could possibly be two ways of addressing the issue: regulator/alternator side and/or the Motorola side. Things that you could try:
  • shunt a reverse protection diode across the output of the alternator to the ground;
  • install filter condensers on all the wires leading to and from the alternator;
  • wire a ground strap (not a ground wire) from the firetruck's - terminal of the battery to the alternator housing;
  • check/improve (lower down) the SWR of the antenna;
  • if you are using a magnetically mounted antenna, replace with a gutter mount or similar mounting brackets;
  • wire a ground strap (not a ground wire) from the antenna mount to the radio to the body of the firetruck to the alternator to the - terminal of the battery.
A ground strap is a flattened braided electrical wire unlike the common stranded auto electrical wire.

Pls post back results. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

I have a Raymarine VHF marine radio but cannot get channel 37 - why not?

Hi,

To my knowledge, Ch 37 (M1) is used by the UK Marinas and Yacht Clubs, however, the Raymarine Ray45VHF uses the US VHF Marine Radio Channels allocations/standard where there is no Ch 37 (actually no Chs 29-59).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Uniden VHF Marine DSC Series 25 Watt Radio

Typically there is an inline fuse in the power cord. It is not built into the back of the unit. If access to the back is restricted, they should have cut out the fuse and installed it near the power buss that the power cord is attached to. How was it flush mounted if you don't have access to the back of the unit? It's not possible to attach the flush mount brackets without access. It's possible that the radio is held in place using sealant. If you are sure there's no way to pull the panel, try gently prying the radio out of the hole working around the edge to break the seal.

Dropped it in the water

Hello Penny2,

It does not appear (based on the manufactuer's website) that the charging cradle for the Uniden GMR638 is compatible with any other radio models.

You may not be able to purchase another GMR638 if you only want a single radio to replace the one that was dropped. The current trend is for manufacturers to bundle consumer two-way radios in packs of two, three or four since most users do not purchase single radios.

If you definitely want to get the exact same model you might have to either purchase another two-pack or contact the manufacturer directly to see if they have single units available. Otherwise, any 22 channel FRS/GMRS combo radio should be able to communicate with your Uniden radios.

Best Regards,

Agent Ken

How to set squelch on a motorola t73xta7ta7bk 2 way radio

That is a Maratrac, the squelch is adjustable thru a variable resistor on the audio/squelch board within the chassis. It is labeled R1132 SQUELCH, and is located very close to the locking handle. Some models have a metal bracket that holds the interface board, (thats the only board in the chassis that is mounted vertically), if you remove this bracket you can see R1132 alot easier, but do not need to remove the bracket to adjust R1132. Clockwise tightens the squelch. One catch though, for this adjustment to work, the radio must have been programmed with the unmuting/muting setting in the RSS, set to And/Or. It comes from the factory set for Std/Std. And in my 15+ years in the business, I have seen only one programmer that changes this setting. Me. Good Luck.

No transmitting with Raymarine Ray45VHF

Hi,

Re your queries:
1. how to memorize channels?
The channels are pre-programmed that a channel number corresponds to a frequency setting. Ex. Ch16 is 156.800 . If for some reasons some channels are missing, perhaps your best course of action is to reset the unit to factory default, that way everything would be back to  normal. Master reset is performed by pressing the 16PLUS button while powering the radio. The LCD will display "CL" indicating that the memory has been cleared.
If you  want to memorize a certain channel/frequency, you can only store it as a replacement for 16PLUS assignment. Ex. Instead of Ch16 as your priority/emergency channel you want say Ch14 (156.700), you can do this by pressing the up/down key till your desired channel; press & hold the 16PLUS key for 3 seconds or until you hear the confirmation beep that your desired channel has been memorized in the memory as the new 16PLUS.

2. Why I cannot transmit?
There could be 2 possible reasons:
2.1 You are transmitting on a channel that has been assigned as receive only. Examples are the weather channels, Channels 1,2,3,  also 70,75,76, and possibly others.
2.2 Your TX module/circuitry has a problem. More often it is the finals that gets burned.

3. When i use the PTT Channel 16 is automatically set ?
The mic has an identical 16PLUS button (similar to the radio's front panel). If you pressed the PTT switch on the side and the radio switches to Ch16 (as if you pressed the 16PLUS button on the front) then you have a wiring problem from the mic to the radio. Possibly a shorted or open connection.  It is also possible that you have a break in the small PCB (in some versions) inside the microphone.

The user's manual can provide a more detailed instruction.  It is available at the RayMarine website and the link is >
http://www.raymarine.com/SubmittedFiles/Handbooks/Legacy_Handbooks/communications/RAY45MANUAL.pdf

Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turns up or should you need further information.

Good luck and kind regards.
