Turned on dryer & tried to start but it gave a load thud noise & wouldn't go. Stop it then re-started a light came on stating clean filter. Clean filter & look inside that area to see if...

there is a sensor located beneath the lint filter, more the likely the dryer sheet residue is on it, gently brush it off, it has two screws. As far as the loud thud noise is/may be a problem with the drum/rollers/glides/belt/idler arm/motor Here is a website that will assist you, once the filter light goes off and the drum will not turn.Good Luck Tim

I bought the Whirlpool Duet to replace my old standard washer & dryer and I find that the wash time is longer than the old washer. Even the quick wash takes about 1 hour. Am I doing something wrong...

I assume from your comment that your old washer was a top loader. Yes, front loading machines typically have longer cycle times than top loaders. There are several contibuting factors... first of all, the wash action of a front load is to oscillate the drum back and forth as well as provide a slow tumbling motion whereas a top loader w/ agitator or impeller has a more aggressive action. The more aggressive action rolls and tumbles your clothes more often and therefore cleans faster. Also, because front loaders spin very fast (up to twice as fast as top loaders) to reduce the amount of moisture left in the clothes, they need to have balanced loads. They accomplish this by testing and rebalancing your load several times during each cycle before beginning to spin.

That was a long answer to your question- no, you are not doing anything wrong.

Good luck.

Our Hotpoint tumble dryer has had a new drum and belt put in 4 days later it is making a horrible grinding noise.

Its possible that the noise is comming from the movement of the drum, the motion of the motor, belt pully or drive spindle. It will be good to reassemble and manually check the moving parts for the noise.

Hello
Some dryers use a motor driven drum.If there is a piece of belt missing this could cause a thud noise.

Also the drum rests in rollers,if a roller is missing or worn this could also be your noise.

Squeaking noise from Dryer when tumbling

IT IS USUALLY THE "BELT TENSION ADJUSTABLE PULLEY". MOST ARE CHEAPLY MADE ... TRY A BIT OF AXLE GREESE ON IT ... IT IS SEALED FROM THE INNER DRUM AND IS MOUNTED USUALLY ON THE BOTTOM FRAME RAILING.
