This is known issue with these mounts. The little on-off power switch breaks- you will either need to send it back to Celestron or open it up and have someone install a new switch.

Most of us never use the switch-- we just plug--- and unplug the power cable.

Cg5 gt dec motor broken

Can you hear the motor running even though the axis does not move? If it is, then all that is possibly needed is to realign the motor on its mounting with the driven gear of the axis. This situation is not uncommon in the CG5. Here is a site with a lot of links and information

http://www.astronomyboy.com/cg5/

If the motor is not running at all, it may be the motor has failed, or more likely, the motor controller circuit board has failed. There is a lot of stuff on the Net about that and it seems spare parts are getting hard to find. In that case you may have to return it to a Celestron dealer.

The problem has also arisen before here on Fixya, so you could examine those posts as well

Hello I need to know if my AR-6 refractor for my LXD55 mount is a direct replacement for mounting on an LDX75 mount and tripod? Also would a CG-5 GEM hold an AR-6?

No-- you need a CG6 to accurately hold that 6 inch refractor.

Recommend that you look at the Celestron 6 inch SCT-- or the Astro-Tech RC6, which can be mounted on that CG5.

Cannot turn on my laptop only the start button light turns on but no screen display and a few noises help

This is only the first of many things you may need to do to determine the fault. But it is a process for determining the exact cause.

Make sure the ac adapter is correctly plugged into the notebook and into the power cord.

If everything is plugged in correctly and it still will not power on, follow these steps to complete a 'power reset' of the notebook.

  1. Unplug the ac adapter. Keep ac adapter unplugged.
  2. Remove the battery and keep the battery unplugged.
  3. Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds. (Nothing will appear on the display and none of the lights will light up.)
  4. Release the power button and plug in the ac adapter ONLY. (Please note that a power indicator light should be lit on the ac adapter when it is plugged in).
  5. Normally power on the notebook.
  6. If the unit does not power on, remove the ac adapter and insert the battery into the system.
  7. Plug the ac adapter back into the system, the battery charging indicator light will light up.
If the battery charging indicator light does not light up, the ac adapter may not be providing proper power to the unit, and may need to be replaced.

CG5 is brand new-not 30days old yet. Mount slews before a star is selected for alignment and continues to slew about the RA until power is cut. What is wrong. Tried 2 different power sources and factory...

You should return the scope under warranty-- however a bad power supply-- and or a bad hand controller cable can cause these symptoms called a "runaway slew".

Get a separate 12 volt power supply and the proper cigarette lighter style power plug.

My Advanced Series GT mount does not power-up. I've replaced the AC adapter with no effect.

Sometimes the pin in the mount needs to be spread out to make good contact.

Also several other things can cause this-- broken hand controller? Does the power light come on? The one on the power panel?

If it does you either have a bad hand controller or a bad hand controller cable.

If the light does not come on try a 12 volt battery pack-- still no light? Then return to Celestron for repair. Contact them here:

Travelmate only powers up with battery inserted. But AC still charges battery. Orange light goes on and of

Sorry to tell you this but you may have a problem with the charging system. That will require you to return it to Acer or an Acer service center. You can also try this. I got this from Acers' travelmate support website:

If the notebook does not power on:

Make sure the ac adapter is correctly plugged into the notebook and into the power cord.

If everything is plugged in correctly and it still will not power on, follow these steps to complete a ‘power reset' of the notebook.
You can aslo google your specific model of Travelmate to see if others are having this issue.

  8. If its not the batery or AC adapter you might have to send it to Texas, just go to www.Acer.com
