I'll start with the first step (just in case you have not tried this and for others not as advanced as you) because you may need the information for BB Handheld Tech Support.
STEP 1.
There is a Device Self Test Diagnostic Application that will test your BB including your RF signal status. Go to OPTIONS, (the wrench).
STEP 2.
On this screen select STATUS.
STEP 3.

Type the word TEST. (you won't see it but it will give you a prompt when ready to prpceed. (

STEP 4.

It will prompt you to select START from the MENU.
This will begin the diagnostic selection process.

Scroll down to RF COMPONENTS; click on the checkbox; scroll down and click on RUN; then click on the telephone number.
The menu will pop up, scroll down to CALL. You should get a recording which is fine. This process is just testing your signal strength which is represented by the 1X or in your case 1x. The signal strength should be maintained throughout the call process. In your case I think it would fail the test. It will prompt you for a PASS or FAIL response. If the call does not go through or it does not maintain a strong signal, that is your problem. Click fail and

STEP 5.

Call your mobile/cellular service provider. The technician for Blackberry Handheld dept. will need to run their diagnostics from their side of the galaxy. They will work their magic and your symbol will change to 1X and you'll be good to go.

PS Note down any error messages you receive so you can accurately tell the technician when he asks. It can help the Tech speed things up while troubleshooting.

Unable to push Sony Optiarc AD-7585H to write at 1x

You're not "pushing" with 1x speed, that's the slowest speed at which a burner will burn at. You can change the write speed in the burning software settings.

Top screen won't lock

Hi,

The most likely reason for the screen being unstable is that when the shell casing was damaged the top screens ribbon was damaged at the same time.

You can sort both these issues out but it is not a small job, you will need a few specialist tools, a new top screen, basic soldering skills, delicate handling and plenty of patience.

If you are willing to take on this task then everything you need for the job is readily avaliable from ebay.

The stuff you need are:
1x Replacement shell/ housing/ casing for DS lite.
1x Replacement top screen for DS lite.
1x Precision tri-wing screwdriver.
1x Soldering iron (ideally with 1mm tip, but not essential) and solder.
1x Tweezers.
1x Flat tool, i.e. craft knife, flat head screwdriver.
1x Precision cross head screwdriver.

If you click on my name it will take you to my profile page, once there have a look at my guides I have written, you will need "DS lite dismantle process" and "DS lite top screen replacement".

If you require further help or advice then please get back to me and I will do my best to assist you as best I can.

Regards,

My motherboard has fried: Albatron KM18G Pro 2003. It no longer seems to be available. For the computer to be exactly as it was before disaster struck, do I need exactly the same motherboard?

Well you do not need exactly the same motherboard. You need a motherboard that has the exact CPU socket, DDR slots and AGP or PCI slot.
Here are the specifications for the motherboard: Processor
- AMD Athlon/Athlon XP/AthlonXP Barton/Duron Processor
- FSB 200/266/333MHz
Chipset
- North Bridge: NVIDIA nForce2 IGP
- South Bridge: NVIDIA nForce2 MCP
- I / O Chip : Winbond W83627HF
Memory
- 3 DDR Sockets:
-
DDR200 to 400 non-ECC DDR SDRAM up to 3GB (Single Channel) or up to 2GB (Dual Channel)
Expansion Slots
- 1 x AGP 8X/4X slot (1.5V Only)
- 3 x PCI slots (PCI 2.2 compliant)
IDE Connectors 2 ATA133 channels (up to 4 ATA 133 IDE Devices)
Onboard I/O Connectors
- 1x Floppy Connector
- 2x USB 2.0/1.1 header (4 ports USB cable optional)
- 1x CD_IN header
- 1x COM Port header
- 1x S/PDIF in/out header (S/PDIF in/out cable optional)
- 1x CPU fan header with fan rotation detection function
- 1x System fan headers with fan rotation detection function
- 2x 5 pin system panel header (Intel spec)
- 1x 3 pin Power LED header
- 1x 4 pin Speaker header
- 1x Front audio header (Intel spec)
- 1x Case Open detection header
- 1x Wake on LAN
- 1x 4 pin TV-Out header

So you have to buy a motherboard that has Socket A, that support DDR I memories and has an AGP slot (for the video card).

If you need further assistance, just leave a comment. Thank you for using FixYa.

Canon EOS XTi video output not working

Check that you have the right video cable first. It should have a plug with three contacts at the camera end and 1x black and 1x yellow plug at the other. Check that your camera is set to the correct video output for your region.(NTSC/PAL setting is found in the menu) To check the camera is working correctly, press the playback button to display an image on the lcd and then plug the cable in. If the screen does not blank the camera has not detected the cable being plugged in. A service centre would need to repair the connector or board if that is the case.
