SOURCE: my sony mavica mvc-fd81 turns on for only seconds, and turns off.

Have you tried another battery?
Even the lithium ions will eventually not hold a re-charge.
If the unit stays on with external power, there is a good possibility that a new battery will solve the issue

How do I remove the battery pack that is stuck in my Sony FD100 Mavica

put dot of superglue on bottom of battery and put a string in it too. let it dry for couple of hours and pull gently on the string while coaxing the battery and it will slide out eventually. another method is to swing the camera with battery door open while aiming the battery to be "launched" toward a soft object or your hand and cause an emense G-gorce to they battery to expel it from the camera :-).

Mvc fd73 disc error

If this has happened with several floppy disks, then it is likely that the cameras' drive has failed. It is common in the FD73. There are several of that model on eBay right now. You can find them in Cameras and Photo, search fd73. A few are less than 50$, which is less than a replacement drive will cost to replace in your camera.

You probably need a new Sony "Infolithium" battery, by now. The battery lasts a long time
but 10 yrs IS a long time! If you've never repl
aced the battery, it's time to. They charge ok
but don't last very long when they're near the
end of their life! (Sounds like what you're
describing.) The little disc battery only works
the memory for the Date / time / etc.

The new battery may not be an original Sony infolithium type which has internal and interactive circuits. These infolithium types constantly informs you about the battery condition. The only way is to try another battery. Sivaram.V

This is a CCD sensor problem and should be replaced. Try to have it done free of charge by Sony even though your camera is an old model because CCD sensor should last 10 years +.

Help "for infolithium battery only" mvc-cd400

I've come across a few infolithium batteries which show empty but they have been fully charged. It turned out to be the circuitry in the battery which is supposed to tell you how much power is left being faulty. Both were replaced under warranty. When the fault occured in a Sony 505V the battery was still fully useable apart from the icon flashing flat battery.
