2ND [e^x] (-) 3 ENTER

e^x is the shifted function of the LN key to the left of the 4. (-) is to the right of the decimal point.

Sorry, but I see no vector, just a scalar value and nothing to solve for. If you want to calculate the value enter 3, press the power key (X^y, or Y^x, or ^, depending on the marking on the key, followed by the exponent to get the result 8.42587981071.

I try to graph an absolute value on my Ti 89 and I put the inequality in right but when I go to graph it my calculator says undefined variable.

If you want to graph the absolute value of a function, feed the function to the absolute value ie graph y= abs(f(x)). The calculator will take care of it. See screen captures where I draw the function y1=x^3-5x^2-3 and y2='x^3-5x^2-3'. On the first graph the function is represented and on the second the function and its absolute value.

When calculating anything to the power of zero I get an answer of -1 when the correct answer is 1.

Well, if that anything happens to be a negative number and you key in something like -3^0 without enclosing the argument -3 in parentheses then the answer given by the calculator is perfectly correct. I am just guessing what might have happened. Besides, as you well know, any number different from zero that is raised to the power 0 should yield a value of 1. Is there any point to be proven by calculating it?.

HOW CAN I GET AN EXPONENT FROM TI-84 EX: B

You cannot use a letter as an exponent, unless you stored a numerical value in memory B (EX: 3 [STO>] [ALPHA] B stores value 3 in B)
For any numerical value of exponent ( positive, negative, integer, fraction, what have you) you use the general power key, marked with a caret [^] under the [CLEAR] key.

Example: To enter 15 to power 5
Type in 15
Press [^] key
Type in the value of the exponent (5) and press [ENTER]
You get 759375 as result.

Wont stay on. It'll load for 3 secs then turn off

The Calculator has a feature that takes it into standby after a certain delay of inactivity. Possible values of the delay are 1 min, 3 min, 5 min, 10 min, and 30 min.
In view of this, your 3 sec value seems too short. I suspect that the batteries are depleted.

In OS 2.x, press 5: Settings & status, then 3:Handheld Setup. Look for drop down box to the right of Power Standby, and select a longer delay.

I am trying to solve a quadratic function using the calculator but i dont seem to be able to do so. For example if i had a question like 5x^2 + 15x +3, how would i use the sharp el-w535 to find the x...

This expression 5x^2+15x+3 is not an equation, therefore it can have any value depending on the value of x. You have to make it an equation before looking for the particular value of x that satisfy your equation 5x^2+15x+3 =0

This calculator cannot solve equations because it does not have an equation solver.

Store & Recall Buttons

STO 1 puts the displayed value into memory location 1.

RCL 1 brings the stored value back.

Same for memory locations 2 and 3.

If there's something in memory, M1, M2 M3 will show in the display, clear the memory by storing the value zero.

Note that anything stored into memory location 1, 2 or 3 over writes what was there. Memory values are retained through power off/on.

To add the displayed number to a memory location (instead of replacing the value stored), use 2nd, STO, n

To exchange displayed and stored values, use 2nd, EXC, n

n is 1, 2 or 3

Basic Q's

The LOG and LN keys do what you have done.

To get 9 to the 16th power, enter 9, "y to the power x" (under the OFF key) then 16, then =

3 to the 12th power is the same, enter 3, y to the power x, 12, =, result 531,441

The inverse key sequence: value 1, 2nd, y to the power x, value 2, returns the xth root of y, e.g. 531,441, 2nd, y to the power x, 12, =, gives you 3 back
