Portable radiant convector heater -burner slightly faulty

If not blue is it yellow ? Could be too much gas to heater check reg , might need cleaning burner , thermostat if fitted not working ..

sound like faulty thermocouple lead safety device this allows gas to flow to pilot and when hot should hold open the gas valve for the main burner if faulty the gas is cut off

Hi there may be a number of factors involved with this appliance,
1. if you are opening a hot tap/faucet only slightly there may not be enough water flow to keep the burner alight. try turning on the tap alot at first then decrease the flow to your required amount
2. there may be a blockage or partial blockage in your gas supply.
3. water may have entered the casing and got into the electrical componenets of burner jets
And lastly if your Rheem unit is past its warranty & you can't get a service technician out to check it, then your last resort would be to get a qualified person to have a look at it

Hi,when Element does not heat up correctly

1. Test for power to determine that the unit is receiving the correct voltages.
2. If the power voltages are correct and you have standard surface burner elements:
1. Test Surface Burner.
2. Test the Receptacle.
3. Test the Burner Switch.
3. If the power voltages are correct and you have solid-disc elements:
1. Test the solid-disc element.
2. Test the Burner Switch.
4. If the power voltages are correct and you have radiant heating elements:
1. Test the radiant heating element.
2. Test the Burner Switch.


1. Make sure the controls are set properly that the oven selector switch is set correctly and that the temperature switch is set to the desired temperature. Where applicable, make sure the oven timer is set to manual.

2. Make sure the oven door is slightly ajar as per your owner's manual.

3. If nothing else on the Range, Oven or Cooktop is working then:
1. Check the circuit breaker or fuse
2. Test for power

4. Test the broiler element.

5. Check the oven thermostat.

6. Check selector switch.

7. Check oven cycling relay.

Sounds like you need a new thermocouple

Is this a standing pilot unit. So when it goes into high
fire is it just actually going from pilot to burner on ?
If this is the case and the burner shuts down, then
it is the flame sensor.

If it is two stage heat and 1st stage is fine, then when
second stage comes on and goes out, I would be looking at the supply of gas.

Problem sounds like the incoming gas pressure is too high or the burner below the middle brick has debris or trash clogging some of the openings. Recommended next step is to remove all power / natural gas to the space heater and check all burners for debris or blockage. If burners are clear have your natural gas provider test the incoming gas pressure to ensure it is correct for that appliance.

Normally purple/blue on the radiants indicates low gas pressure, could also be dust slowing gas velocity into burner and/or an aeration problem. Get it checked out properly.

You might have a slight odor of gas when the burner first ignites. Some gas does escape before it completely ignites. It shouldn't smell after 2 years of use. If you can see the pilot flame burning from the top of the heater, the heater pilot assembly is pushed over too far. The pilot fumes could be escaping in the room and cause a smell.
