Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

We have a full load in the machine and the door handle catch has gone limp and seems to have broken and just swings loose backwards and forwards inside the housing. The emergency pull release chord at the bottom right of the machine is of no use as this must be connected to the faulty door release mechanism. We are unable to get an engineer out for over a week and I desperately need my work uniform which is trapped inside. I hope there is a way to open the door and look forward to your reply Kind regards Craig

The door will open only after the cycle is completed. If so you must try to see if there is any way by which the door link which had broken off could be wrenched with a screw driver to trip the lock.
If not look from the bottom of the washer, use a long handle screw driver to push into the lock where the door lever has broken out.
You must get a good flash light or head light to watch well to see this trap.
If the access is not good enough then remove the obstruction to move off the drum and push into the lock.
you can weld up the broken handle with the link.

Door on Hotpoint WT540P Won't open

I have solved this problem now. I removed the top of the washing machine and opened the catch with a screwdriver to release the door. The plastic handle on the door has snapped so have ordered a new one on line for £5 plus p+p. Should be able to fit it myself. Hotpoint wanted £100 - £160 to come out and fix it. Beware!!

Door handle of washing machine broken

if clothes are still in washer? and machine has finished cycles? then handle broke so unable to open ??? your best option is to unplug/ and if necessary disconnect water supply hoses then remove the top screws from rear panel which also secure the top panel as you will observe ? then pull backwards top panel and loft off ? you now have access/visual of the door catch inside front machine look?? at the catch and you will see how it locks ? you can lever the catch gently and door opens to fit a new door catch is easy diy and not expensive if you are confident usual problem these break ? is the time delay micro switch sticks with age /moisture try dw40 and work plunger b4 you refit door back after replacing handle/catch assy

Off balance, loose drum?

If your machine produces a lot of banging noises when in a permanent press final spin you may be experiencing a broken spider. It is a part which is not made from stainless steel metal, but attached to a stainless still drum (tub spin). So, when it is soaked in water all the time during a normal operation of a washer it creates a galvanic element between a stainless still drum and itself. This results in severe corrosion of the "spider" and then leads to it's breakage. To check if you have a broken "spider" open the door of the washer and try to kick your internal drum back and forward while rotating it slowly. If you will hear clicking noises (metal to metal) in some position of the drum it means that your spider is broken. The replacement of this spider will require complete disassemble of the drum. Most likely you will end up replacing this whole part
Drum assembly, spin basket Part # 131618500Another way is get just a spider part, it's doable, but may be tricky.
Cheers!

Belling SGE12X broken door handlw

it's not an easy job to replace a door handle, but to release it for the door to open, turn off the machine at the outlet and unplug. Take the top of the machine off and slide your hand down to the door catch. Depending which type of catch it is, you should either be able to push down a small lever on top or push up a small lever on the bottom or the door catch.

I hope this helps

easy way is to cut or break away the handle so the start of the door peg is exposed and use a screwdriver on the peg to lever it out

I had the same problem, so I took the door apart as explaned above, found it was gunged up with residue from the washihg cycles. Gave it a good clean, while the part was disconected of course, and hay presto! the door works like new again.
