I did all of the things that you recommended and it still does not work. When I try to get to it with Firefox, it times out.

The problem is not from your side, many users are facing the same problem right now. It's from the Facebook Server, I guess one or some of the server/s is/are down at the moment. If possible, let me know your current location so that I can find out the exact area where this is happening.
I doubt whether it's whole u.s as none of my U.S. friends are online at the moment.

Thanks.

Thanks a lot for the clarification. Well then the problem must be with your browser. As you've mentioned you are using IE8, I would suggest you to try Mozilla Firefox (click here to download firefox), open the link, click "Firefox 3.6 Free download", download and install it and try login in through the Firefox. If it works fine, then you need to check the IE settings. If you didn't notice/recollect any changes you've recently made on your IE, then simply reset all the settings to it's Default. Close Internet Explorer, go to Control Panel, then "Internet Options" and click "Security" tab and again click "Reset all zones to default value", then "Apply" again click "Advanced" tab and then "Restore Advanced Settings", again click "Apply", then "Ok". Close the window.

Now run the Ccleaner, and the Registry cleaner. Open the Ccleaner, click "Run Cleaner" and proceed forward, again click "Registry" and then "Scan for issues" and again "Fix selected issues" and proceed forward with the same. [Please note that all browsers and programs should be closed/terminated while running both Cleaner and Registry cleaner, otherwise it'll not take the complete effect. It's also important to check the Task Manager, on the "Processes" tab of the Task Manager, locate iexplore.exe and terminate it (end task), but default on most systems, this internet explorer runs un-noticeably]. After everything's done, restart your computer and try again, everything should work fine.

If the problem persists, let me know.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for using FixYa.

Well, this problem is very common and sometimes it itself is from Facebook like yesterday, it was for most users in the U.S. who were accessing facebook from their computers (there was no problem with facebook mobile edition), but it's fixed and now everything is normal and working properly. But in your case, there might have been some changes with the internet settings and it's hard to figure out since I can inspect and check the settings myself.

You've got few options, first try to restore the system to the previous state when it was working and try again. It sounds strange and unfamiliar but many users with the Time Out issue got fixed after restoring. Let me know when you are done.

    Good luck.

Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to www.facebook.com

This is the second reference I've seen today about not being able to access Facebook. Try logging into the "non"-secure site, http://www.facebook.com. If that works, then try the secure version, https://www.facebook.com.

Also, test your ability to log in with other browsers, such as Firefox or Internet Explorer. That way, you will have a means to evaluate the cause of the problem.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks ~Jim :-)

Connection/login error

Try out the following 3 options :

1. Clear out history, cookies and cache
After doing this if it still doesnt work
please go to the next step,

2. Update internet explorer to the latest version i.e. IE8 from :
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx

or you can use firefox by downloading and installing from :
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html

If this doesnt work go to step 3

3.Create a new user account by going to control panel - user accounts in Vista and give it administrator rights. In winxp its almost similar or you can follow this url to guide you through it :
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/winxp/accounts.mspx

Of course when you use a new account you will have new desktop settings, browser settings , document folders etc. Check if you can log into facebook on the browser of the new account.

Facebook wont load on my computer. when i type in the web address, it takes me to the internet explorer cannot display this page.

Only facebook does this? No other websites?

If so then your connection is fine, so check the following things:

1) Have you typed the URL correctly? (http://www.facebook.com)

2) Last resort; Download a new browser (Internet Explorer/Firefox/Google Chrome) <-- Personal preference for me is google Chrome.

Hope this helped

Internet explorer can't connect to facebook ...why?

You can try two different solutions:
.
Solution 1
Download Firefox 3.5 and used that instead of Internet Explorer.
here is the link for downloading it
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html
.
Solution 2
Use a Proxy Server to connect to Facebook.com
1. Search Proxy in GOOGLE
2. Select Proxy Server
3. Type in facebook.com (in the proxy server webpage)
4. login into facebook account
5. Enjoy (although all games will work but Farmville may have problems loading)
.
recommended Proxy Server >> http://www.youtubeproxy.ws/
.
