Question about Bose Lifestyle 48 System

3 Answers

I replaced the hard drive in my Bose Lifestyle 48 sytem and the error coce still appears and I do no think the hard drive is being recognized. The drive is the drive that is specific to bose system. Is there information that needs to be on hard drive for a hand shake connection?

error code 802 has been the consistant code, but code 172 has shown up when trying to use upgrade disc.

    Thanks

  • dtmet Sep 16, 2010

Will the software upgrade cancel the 802 error code or is the series of functions that needs to done to clear code?

This is a known problem for the Bose 48 system, which is associated with the reading of hard drives in general, it has affected other systems even the Xbox 360. What you can try is contacting Bose who should be able to supply you with a firmware update that may or may not sort your problem. If it does not sort it out then you will more than likely need to send it to Bose to be repaired. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I hope you get it sorted.

Can you tell me the exact error code? Using the error code might give us a clue on what information we need.

I''ll be waiting for your reply.

Thank you!

The error code 802 means that the hard drive not being identified. And your decision is correct, to use the upgrade disc should fix the problem. Unfortunately, you've got an error 172. The reason why you've got an error 172 when you tried using the upgrade disc, because most of the distributed "Upgrade" discs were corrupted when they release it in January.

As far as I believe, if the Bose Lifestyle 48 system is still under the warranty, the manufacturer will replace that because the errors or problems that you've got is a known issue. Please contact the reseller or manufacturer and check with them if they will replace it. If not, ask for an updated "Upgrade" disc that you may use. That should resolve the problem.

    Thank you!

Bose lifestyle fault code 802 hi there- i have a bose lifestyle 48 and on display it reads format unsupported when i try to listen to cd's gut not on dvd's - in addition i am unable to store music into the...

Unfortunately, an 802 error is bad. That means hard drive (HDD) failure. This can happen to any hard disc drive, and there's no way to predict it and no way to fix it from home.
If you even try to troubleshoot it (reset etc), you could loose more data (music you've already stored to the system). If you try to access 'stored' music- the error will continue. Also, every time you turn the system off, it checks your HDD, and will probably cause the 802 or 801 errors to display again.
The "Format Unsupported" message may be related, but usually temporary. The 802 (and also 801) errors mean irreversible HDD damage so it doesn't matter.
Call Bose tech support immediately.. They can repair it for $165 and give a new 1 year warranty. And if it's already under warranty they will repair for free. In either case they will replace your HDD with a new one, and transfer any salvaged music files from your existing drive to the new drive.

Call Bose. It needs a new hard drive. There's a charge if it's out of warrantee, but it is reasonable. Seems like this is a common problem!

Bose Lifestyle 48 Error code 801

We had this problem. I called Bose, and they reported that the 801 error is a hard drive problem. The unit started squealing while I was on the phone to support, and the guy heard it. Said the hard drive was failing.

$200 to ship the unit to Bose to replace the drive. Wish they had a secret warantee for what seems like a common problem.
