This is normal. Freezers have a vent port to let high moisture out. When you open the door moisture laden air enters. When the door is closed the hot air from outside expands and leaves through the vent port. This creates a vacuum in the freezer that lasts a few minutes. No problem

Frigidaire commercial upright freezer

Empty everything into a few boxes, cover them with lots of blankets. If the unit is in an area that has a drain in the floor, then just hose it down with warm water. If it is a moveable unit, hand truck it out side and do the water thing out there.

DO NOT TRY TO PRY ICE OFF ANY TUBES OF ANY KIND. THEY ARE FAIRLY DELICATE AND DO NOT HANDLE BEING TWISTED WELL.

When your done, reload the unit and from now on, do not leave the door open so much, ice will build up much slower. I generally do mine every 3-4 years. I also keep a few one gallon jugs full of water near the freezer and when I take something about the same size out, I replace it with the number of gallon jugs needed to fill that vacancy.

What all that does it, it reduces the amount of MOIST AIR that can rush into the unit when it is opened, and the ice will accumulate much much slower, plus a side benefit is, if you have a power outage, your have a freezer full of product and frozen water. Great for parties. If you do have that power outage, cover the freezer with a ton of blankets and it will stay as hard as a rock for several days. DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR EXCEPT IN A EMERGENCY. PRESERVE YOUR SEALED AIR CHAMBER YOU HAVE CREATED INSIDE OF YOUR REFER/FREEZER.

kindly,

Jim

Freezer is Frozen shut

Try unplugging the freezer and leave the door open for about 30 to 45 minutes. Don't forget the door is open and plug the freezer back in. Set a timer in the kitchen so you don't forget. Once you can open the drawers look inside the freezer sides to find the controller. Most models have turn dial inside.

Door was not sealed tightly for about a day resulting in some frost inside freezer. Door appears to be closed but door ajar light is still lite and alarm is still beeping. What do I need to check?

The door seal has a magnetic property to it. Until the freezer gets to a certain degree the magnetic porperties of the door seal dont react properly. Make sure the door seal is properly adjusted. If the door was left open it could have semi warped the door. This gets corrected when temp drops to correct temp. Reset freezer by unplugging and waiting for a few minutes. If problem persist contact appliance technician.

Weird (Pressure Release) Noise After The Door Has Been Closed

The freezer being closed up tight and so cold can create a negative pressure inside. This negative pressure will cause the door to be very hard to open and could pull the door closed too quickly. Most manufactures today use small air valves the open and release as the door is being opened and closed. They are most often found on the bottom of the door itself or sometimes in the cabinet behind the back wall.

The noise is perfectly normal, my wife says it is there to alarm her when I am eating too many ice cream bars.....

Lost vacumn, door popped open alarm on

If is the type of freezer where the shelves are also the evaporator(shelves are very cold and is normal to frost), the fact that only one shelf is iced would indicate the system is low on freon due to a leak. This would also explain the hot walls and compressor. It requires a service man to check the freon level and locate leak and recharge.

Can't open bedroom door

Check to see if the wood or the lock is binding. Try this:

Leave door open and turn on heat. After a few hours, try to close door and see if it's catching on the frame. If it is, plane the door where it is binding. You can check for binding by using chalk on the door and after closing it, see where the scrub marks are.

If it's the lock, take out the striker plate and using a chisel, make the cut out deeper. Install the striker plate and test it again.
