Re Makita LS1040 blade guard mechanism, hi there i did a foolish thing yesterday instead of seeking professional advice off of the net i went ahead & removed the possi screw with the big washer on it which holds the guard mechanism together i thought you had to remove this to get to the bolt that retains the blade on the spindle.Ive managed to reassemble the mechanism but its not lifting the guard as it did before i tamperred with it,any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks Jim UK.

Most likely it is a Torx head type screw. Looks like a cross between a Allen & Philips. Go to your local hardware store or auto supply store and get a Torx driver with exchangeable bits (about $4.00)

I don't believe you have to take the guard off, just roll it back out of the way so you can get a wrench on the nut. The rotation is clockwise to take it off.

How do I lift the saw mechanism on a Makita LS1040. It is locked and cannot trace any release mechanism. Danie

It's on the righthand side of the saw at the hinge area in the back. If that is unlocked then it could be the guard linkage hanging up.

HOW TO CHANGE BLADE

Do you have the wrench that came with the saw? It should be slid in the back somewhere, there is a lock on the top that you hold the motor locked with, unplug the saw, turn the nut on the blade, start the saw down and grab the guard with your thumb to hold it and then lift it up all the way to slip the blade out. You should be all set.

Blade acts unusual

Hi, Blade wobble at high speed can be very dangerous! The saw at the right ( wrong) wobble can destroy itself. There are a few things that can cause it, And you have to check them as best you can before you power it back up. Check the blade, you can lay two blades together and check for gaps anywhere. Check that the hub and spindle are flat where the blade goes. (No lock washers) Also check the spindle for side to side movement, there shouldn't be any. Turn the spindle by hand and see if you feel any grit or sandy type feeling, you shouldn't. Lastly, if you don't find anything, try a new blade of a different type, and if it wobbles again, check and see if you have any warranty left and even if you don't you should contact Makita about it.
About the best I can do from long distance. Let me know what you find, Please.
