Question about Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Last night I noticed a small amount of water on the flooor in my laundry room, imediately realized it wasn't enough to be a broken water hose for the washer. Later while mopping up water that there seamed to be a drip under the door of the washer, opened the door and the the water in the tub flowed out onto the floor. The machine had not been used for two days. I did turn off the water to the washing machine, solved the problem for the moment, but is there a fix for it?

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description..."The machine had not been used for two days. I did turn off the water to the washing machine, solved the problem for the moment
" you likely have a faulty inlet water valve.

Here`s an easy way to check...

1) First drain the standing water which presently exists, if any.

2) Unplug the washer from the wall/power outlet and allow a period of time to pass, 12 hrs or so. If the unit has standing water in it after wards you need a valve.

If it doesn't have water in it after-wards then the valve is being energized when it is plugged in even when it should not...that indicates a faulty control unfortunately, but not very likely.

The valve # is 8182862 and varies in pricing around $40 - $75.

It should be available at most brick and mortar appliance part locations or if you prefer on-line shopping try "searspartsdirect.com" "repairclinic.com" or "appliancepartspros.com" to name a few.

To swap out the valve simply follow these steps...

**Unplug the unit from the wall before attempting any repairs suggested here...safety first**

1) turn off the water and unfasten the hot

Sorry, the remainder of my post was cut off...It should have looked like this.

To swap out the valve simply follow these steps...

**Unplug the unit from the wall before attempting any repairs suggested here...safety first**

    1) turn off the water and unfasten the hot & cold fill hoses going to the washer.

    2) remove the three screws along the back of the top panel and then slide the top panel back slightly and pull up. The panel should lift away.

    3) in the left rear corner ( when observing from the front of the washer )you should now see the valve.

    4) remove the wires, carefully the harness has little release tabs which must be bent back slightly to pull the wire & harness off.

    5) remove the hose to the dispenser assembly, a pair of pliers or vise-grips works well here.

    6) remove the screw on the outside back wall of the washer and pull the valve out, voila !

Reverse order to put the new one in and good job. You potentially saved yourself $200 or more for parts and labour.

Hope this answers your question but more importantly solves your problem.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for your repair solutions today. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Washer wont wash on large load but will wash on medium and small i want to kwow what is going wrong it want do nothing but fill up and leak on the flooor when on large load should i replace the washer

the water pressure hose connected to the load size switch and the lower outer tub has a hole in it,remove the control panel and replace this hose,it uses water height/pressure in the tub to trigger the switch to operate the machine and the hole must be at the upper end of this hose,so it leaks before the water gets high enough to trigger the switch on a large load

Water leaking from underneath the front of the washer..

It could be a seal on the bottom of the tub or a loose or damaged hose where it pumps out. It could also be a loose hose on the water level switch. Remove the front and run it to check it out.

I believe you need to pry up slightly on the top and reach through the gap with a small screwdriver and press on the clips on either side to release the top and lift the top. Then there are two screws that hold the front to the sides and you should be able to lift the front off. Good luck.

Water not shutting off to begin wash cycle flooded room

Probably one of the water cut off solenoids not shutting off.
Do you use both hot AND cold water?
Try using only cold water first. If that works, maybe hot water solenoid is faulty.
Next, connect cold water to the HOT inlet, and try it again. This means you have now tried each of the solenoids, and maybe identified which one is faulty (assuming thats the problem!). If water wont cut off after trying this, the problem will be with whatever level sensing device it has, but I am not familiar with the model you have, so cant help there. Good luck.

Special water hose needed?

i dont know of of a"special hose". are we talking about water inlet (hot and cold) hoses??drain hose??? or a vent hose for dryer???
1. stainless steel non-bursting fill hoses are available in up to 6' lentgh's
2. drain hose can be extended if need be, i would make it as short of an extension as needed, and use a hose of atleast the existing diameter and make sure that it wont, bent or pinch off after putting into drain pipe
3. dryer venting should be a solid aluminum 4" pipe as shosrt as possible with least amount of elbows needed.
all available at a quaitly home improvemnet store/ hardware store

Mildew/Stagnant water smell in washer

you know, this does happen.

run it on a full cycle, warm, with either of these in solution.

baking soda, at 1/10 concentration

non chlorine bleach, at 1/6 concentration

you most likely need to do this more than once, until your nose is happy.

Also, consider doing this at least once every 200 wash cycles.

essential oils have same effect, and do a nice anti microbial as well.

we did this in commercial laundries all the time, as part of standard health code compliance issues.
