Question about Vacuums

Open Question

RE: Goldstar dehumidifier: Model #DH404EY6, S/N 602TAQP05412 My unit is ~4 yr. old, has worked w/o problems until now. It will no longer auto. turn on. When I manually turn it on, the motor turns on, and then immediately shuts off, and "01" appears on the LED screen for humidity level setpoint. Is this an error code, and what does it mean? Can the unit be repaired? Thanks, Wolfgang

SOURCE: It turns on and shuts

If the machine's compressor runs when you switch it on, then turn the machine on maximum and let it run for an hour or so. Then check the coils in the back with your hand. If they are not getting cold at all, then there is a significant problem with the refrigeration process in the unit. It may have developed a leak and allowed your refrigerant gas to escape, or there may be another internal problem with the compressor. Either way you would need to have it serviced by a fridge technician, or more likely just replaced with a whole new unit since both options can potentially cost about the same.

If the unit runs normally and the coils are getting cold, then make sure they are not totally icing up which will impede the unit's performance. If your dehumidifier is freezing up then that probably means it is actually working well. The humidity level in the room is probably just relatively low and you probably have the unit turned up too high for the conditions.

Try turning down the setting on the unit so that it cycles on and off every few hours and does not run continuously.

Also try using some warm soapy water to clean off any dust or oily residue from the cooling coils in the rear of the unit. Remember to also clean the air intake filter while you are at it.

The ambient temperature in the room may also be a bit too low, so you can try adding some heat to the room if necessary. A dehumidifier will not work properly if the ambient air temperature is too low. Basically, the warmer and more humid the room is, the better they work.Since warm air rises, you can even try lifting the unit higher up off the cold floor onto a bench or table where the air is warmer.

Try it somewhere else or perhaps outside your residence because it is possible the Dehumidifier is not getting enough power supply, you might be running on low voltage in your apartment. Try plug outside your apartment.

It turns on and shuts off just like it is supposed to but the thing is bone dry. The humidity is at 56% so it should be able to dehumidify. It is just a little over 1 year old, help me please?!!

Have dehumidifier 1yr old what is standard warranty on this product

Standard warranty is determined by the manufacturer and you have not stated what model or make of dehumidifier you have.

Most appliances are covered by 1 year, some by more. If you purchase refurbished, remanufactured or reconditioned units, you could get a 30day, 3 month etc. and this differs between retailers.

Your warranty is honoured by the retailer and not the manufacturer so you could contact them to see.

This sounds like the valve assembly (full bag control) is faulty or one ov the tubes is clogged. You will have to take it to the shop.

sounds like you have the plastic bodied canister. the controll valve inside is bad. I usually just disconnect those to avoid future problems. you may want to take the vacuum to a repair shop though becuase they are a pain to get apart and get back in one piece.

Brush will not spin any longer

If the brush won't spin at all, it's either the drive belt or the roller beater brush is clogged. Pet hair can quickly clog a vacuum. Turn the unit over and see if the brush will rotate by hand. If yes, it's probably the belt. Also look for debris and clear as much out as possible. You may have to remove the bottom plate and clean the bottom of the unit out. If you do have to go that far, it would be best to replace the drive belt and thoroughly clean the vacuum.

My old Tristar canister vac.

If you have a voltage meter you could see where the problem lies. All TriStar parts including the motors, both the nozzle head motor and the actual vacuum motor are purchaseable online through www.totalvac.com
I have ordered parts through them and everything arrives no problem and they are priced nicely by the way.
