Fuji s7000 zoom error

posted by Araboer on May 17, 2008

My fuji s7000's lens got stuck with a zoom error. Is it software? Then where do I download it from? Is it hardware? What should be done? Kindly advise.

Hi
Mine did this and refused to function.
Take the batteries and card out just in case.

I then took out the 6 screws in the lens shroud (3 sets of two - note 1 long one and 1 short one for each set) and removed the shroud cover to one side. The lens barrel is located in the inner shroud and has a very close tolerance. This is the main cause of the problem as an dirt or dust just clogs up the fine tolerance. Try and jiggle the lens shroud slightly and if need beapply a little lens cleaning fluid in the clearance gap. Put batteries back in the camera and try to start the camera. The lens should move as normal. Keep perservering as this will solve the problem. It is only dirt stoping the lens from moving combined with the low power of the motor powering the lens focusing. Take care at all times and be sparing with any lens cleaning fluid.
Best of luck

DK

This can be 2 different problems. First is low battery condition, early models of this camera had power control problems, ie battery can still be drained even though camera is off. If you know your camera has good batteries, you can try this if you feel brave: unscrew the 3 small screws at the base of the lens, this will allow lens shroud to come off. You can then extend the lens manually simply by twisting it. Leave lens fully extended, reassemble lens shroud, then turn on camera. Lens should reset.
If you dont feel confident in doing this yourself, visit a qualified camera shop, they should know all about this problem.

As a note, if you suspect your camera has the first problem, battery drains even though camera is off, Fuji can do a firmware update which fixes this (for a price). Fuji does not provide firmware for download, bummer.
If its the second problem and what I suggest fixes it, it will probably happen again. Best I can recommend is to not use it when the battery gets low.
