Question about Dell Inspiron 1720 Notebook

Open Question

My Dell Inspiron 1720 will not shut down and won't let me back in...even if I switch off the machine and reboot. I've even switched it off for several hours and tried to restart but the problem prevails. What might be the issue and how can I remedy? Gordon W. Whittet

SOURCE: My dell inspiron 1720 keeps rebooting. Pressed

Yes. You'll need to replace the hard drive with that error code.

No matter you can't use that computer without replacing the hard drive.

If you have a warranty for the computer contact tech support for your dell, give them the error code you have
and they will immediately replace your hard drive.

Re seating the hard drive won't fix it.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: spilt drink on inspiron 1720. after letting dry

Make sure you DO NOT plug in your lap top to the power out let. This could cause a shock.
You see the Dell media direct, means your CMOS is OK.
But if Windows is not loading means the spill could have damaged your hard drive. I would strongly suggest you take it to a shop where they repair laptops.
This way you may have to replace your hard drive, but save your note book.

SOURCE: inspiron 1720 reboots randomly. tried reseating

most likely related to the blue screen issues. a possible reinstall of the OS may be needed. To check if it is blue screen related, restart the computer, press F8 when system restarts, then select the option to disable auto-restart option on the advanced options menu and press Enter. Next time you use the system, see if it will still auto-restart or if you'll get a blue screen. If there is an error, a system rstore or OS repair or reinstall may also be needed.

SOURCE: umy dell 1720 inspiron keeps rebooting, when the

I had this problem a while back and it turned out to be a faulty hard drive. I had called Dell and done all of their troubleshooting to no avail. At first I thought it was a power source problem as that had happened to me with an old desktop I had, but it turned out to be the hard drive. If you are still under warranty with Dell, they actually are pretty good with customer service. I called them at 4:30 one afternoon and no kidding, I had the new hard drive by the next day. It's not always that fast, but it sure is faster than most tech support! I had to replace a keyboard, too, and got that in a hurry.
I would recommend at least calling Dell...they will run you through a number of trouble shooting scenarios. Then you will know for sure what it is, but I would bet it is the hard drive.

Can't connect wirelessly from inspiron 1720 to canon pixma mx 882

Hello Kamar,

Is your 1720 hard wired to your router? if so, you may not have the WiFi switched on on the PC. Do you have 5 vertical bars in the bottom right hand corner of the screen? If not, you need to switch the WiFi on with the switch at the front of the left hand side panel. o
Once WiFi is active, make sure the printer is on and in WiFi setup then install the printer software on the 1720 and follow the instructions.
I hope this cures the problem.

Kind regards,
Ron.

My dell inspiron 1545 won't shut down went i click on the shut down icon it won't turn off .

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds. That will hard-shut the PC. Once that is done, fire it back up, and try again. Somethimes, windows will act goofy shutting down. Especially Vista when it is left on too long without shutting it down.

My Dell Inspiron 1720 works with the battery, but shuts down when the ac is plugged in. Is there a simple fix?

Will the Notebook work with the ac plugged in and the battery out. Most of the time it will be a faulty charger or even the port the charger plugs into. The port is soldered to the main board and would be something that a repair shop would need to replace. If you search the www you can find Dell compatible power supplies for Dell at less cost than direct from Dell
