Sometimes you really have to push it very forcefully to turn it will not break it... just bang on it...
If it then won't turn off you will have to have the meter pulled to kill the power and replace the whole breaker.....
actually it would be a good idea to do that anyway, because the integrity of the breaker may be compromised and if it is needed to kick it may not....

I purchased a defective HOM 220 GFI circuit breaker. What do I need to do to get a new one?

Install the breaker. Connect the neutral wire to the neutral bar. Do not connect any load wires to the breaker. Energize the panel and turn on the breaker. Check the output voltage of the breaker with a volt meter. If it reads correct your breaker is OK. Now shut it off and connect the neutral load wire to the breaker. Turn the breaker on. If it trips the problem is in the wiring or load. If not shut off and connect the load wires. turn it on, if it trips the problem is in the load wires or load ie motor.

Turning off breaker

Locate the breaker box, turn on the dryer, flip breakers off and on till you find the one that stops the dryer.

Write on the breaker box with a magic marker to identify each breaker. You can do this with all the breakers! Turn on everything in the house...lights, microwave, etc. ..Just need someone to tell you what goes off when you turn off each breaker and you write it on the breaker box!

My breaker is conected to a hot tub. tub was working fine in auto mode. Turned on jets and breaker tripped. will not reset can you help me

I am assuming this is a GFCI circuit breaker? If it is it will have a "test" button on the breaker. When you say "jets" i'm assuming you mean when you turn on the blower to make the air bubbles? It could be you have a problem with the blower motor. When you start the blower, it trips the breaker. Be sure the blower is in off position when you reset the breaker. The most common fault though on a spa/hot tub is with the heater. If the element goes bad, and current flows to ground, it will trip the GFCI breaker. Again try and turn all functions off. Reset breaker, and then turn on one at a time till the breaker trips. First the pump, then the heat, then the blower.

Hello I have a one year old Balboa 500z running a single pump. It worked great until I turned off the breaker to the spa when I drained and cleaned it. After re-filling it; I turned the breaker back on. It...

If you suspect a bad breaker, that is an easy troubleshooting idea. In some cases you can swap the wire to a different breaker, of the same value, in the panel. This temporary swap would tell you if the fault is in the breaker or the circuit. If you do not have another breaker of the same value , then you would have to buy one for this self check.
The next step would be to check the wiring from the breaker to the device. Disconnect the device and try to reset the breaker. This will tell you if the fault is in the feed wires or the device or in the device itself.

No water in the house from well. circuit breaker is trippe. when i move it to sparks & trips immediately (pump does respond & turns on briefly)

There is really only Three options...
1) The pump is out
2) Wiring is shorted
3) Breaker is bad

The reason it sparks when you turn the breaker to " ON " is there is a dead short. An easy way to check a 110v wire and breaker is to disconnect it from the pump and hook it to a SPARE NEW receptacle and plug in a light... turn on the breaker and see if it still sparks and if the light comes on. If you don't get sparks and the light comes on, then your pump is shorted and needs repaired or replaced. If it does spark when you turn on the breaker then you need to replace wire and or breaker.

Hope this Helps,

20amp breaker tripped unexpectly tonight. tried resetting at panel but won't click all the way over and little red indicator also on the breaker

Hello, In order to reset circuit breakers that have tripped under load, you must first flip the breaker all the way OFF, before you can then turn the breaker back ON. This should reset the breaker to turn the power back on to the circuit supplied by this breaker.

The red indicator is just there to make it easier to find the tripped breaker. Typically, the red indicator flag is a special feature of Square D QD breakers and panels.

If the breaker immediately trips again and doesn't stay on, then the device it is providing power to, still has a fault and it needs to be looked at to determine what is causing the fault and the tripping of the breaker.

Be sure to turn the breaker OFF if you are going to check the device for potential problems.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Turned breaker off then back on now dishwasher has no power

Turn the breaker all the way off again. And then back on again. You should have power now. IF turning the power back on caused the breaker to kick off you may have a short in the breaker itself.

If you are handy you can change the breaker your self for the cost of a replacement breaker, usually under ten dollars. Then you will know for sure that where the problem was or is.
