In the control panel find the icon that looks like a speaker. It usually says Sounds and Audio devices. Check there to see if it's muted. Then click on the audio tab to see if it's selected as the default device. Make the necessary changes that may be needed. If no microphone is listed then you'll have to obtain an external microphone and plug it in the pink audio jack.
Try to adjust the settings for your microphone in the "Sound" settings in your Windows control panel. Go to the recording tab to find the correct settings. If that doesn't fix it, check the 3.5mm jack is properly seated in the connecting jack. If that doesn't fix it, buy a new microphone.

No, there is no built-in microphone on your machine, you have to buy one separately. NB! It requires a combined headphone/microphone jack. The regular jacks work for
the headphones, however the microphones will not work. See here
maybe you have a piece of your head phone jack stuck in the port, does the sound still come through the headphones if you re insert them? or have you tried control panel sounds to see if your default speakers have changed ?
You should have sound from the speakers at all times until headphones are plugged into the jack, the jack then overrides the speakers and allows you to listen using the headphones. If the speakers aren't working, it's because they're being overridden by the damaged jack. The only way to correct this is to replace the faulty jacks. You could get a set of external speakers, the con is they're bulky and inconvenient.
