Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console
Hi you have got the dreaded red ring of death, this is very common with all xboxes and their are people out their that will fix them for you for a fee.
their is nothing you can do yourself to solve this problem as its a case of taking the xbox apart and removing the heat sinks and the x clamps and fitting new parts and new heat sink paste, this is a big job and requires special tools. so its not for the novice to do.
i do the repairs to these on a regular basis and 8 out of 10 i fix work again but others tend to be to far gone.
any way the reason you are getting this warning light is due to it over heating, check the date on the sticker on the back of the xbox as it is covered by warranty for 3 years for this exact fault so if its less than 3 years old go to the xbox website and get them to replace it for you, if its outside this time then you have 2 options you could either repair it or sell it.
you can buy repair kits and get the instructions off the net but without having done it before it can by really hard to do and you could do more harm than good.
when they built these they used cheap parts and cheap heat sink paste now over time this causes it to over heat and then you get the dreaded red ring of death and this shows you the either the gpu or cpu chip has over heated.
now the repair involves taking the xbox apart which is not easy but can be done you need to then remove the x clamps and then remove both heat sinks. once their removed you need to clean them up and remove all the old heat sink paste and use new paste, you also need to get xbox rrod repair kit as you wont be using the cheap x clamp bits anymore these will go in the bin as this is what caused the problem in the first place.
let me know what you would like to do or if you need further assistance ok
i also be damaged xbox's but im based in UK
if you are going to do this yourself then make sure you have no warranty left as this fault is covered for 3 years by microsoft so if the date on the sticker on the back of the xbox is within this time all you need to do is go to the microsoft webiste and tell them and they will give you a replacement.
i charge 25pound to do the repair so you should be looking around this price if you are paying someone also their is no guarantee the repair will work as the damage caused by the over heating could have destroyed the cpu or gpu chip but you wont know this till after the repair work has been done.
if you are doing the work yourself then you need to get a erpair guide off the net so just google rrod repair guide and this will list loads of sties with these guides, you will also need to buy an xbox 360 rrod repair kit, you can get these off ebay for next to nothing, then you need to get some heat sink paste and some special torque screwdrivers to remove the xbox case.
this is not an easy job to do and getting it wrong can do a lot more harm than good if you put to much pressure on the heat sinks when you put them back on this will destroy the gpu and cpu chip so be warned.
make sure you get a guide and correct tools or if you are unsure get someone to do it who knows what their doing.
plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Testimonial: "Thanks for your feedback, unfortunately I kind of expected that this was what you would tell me thanks again!"
Three flashing red lights, commonly referred to as the "Red Ring of Death"
(RROD) is normally caused by overheating. If your console is still covered under Microsoft's Warranty, you should take advantage of it and send it into them. If not, you may want to send it off to someone who charges $50 to $100 and you will have to wait 3 or 4 weeks for them to return it to you. If you want to try to fix it yourself, you need a good repair guide which will take you through the steps with videos in HD. This guide will take you through all the repairs to fix this problem and others you may encounter.
