G'day

my m2000 preario will not charge from the charger or power up but works fine with the battery untill it runs out. I added some RAM and screwdriver slipped and shorted something out as it sparked.

Ouch!

You may have damaged a power controller chip like the MAX1999 or another.

If you had no problems before replacing the RAM I would say that you shorted a MOSFET and it will need to be replaced.
Or another part. That cannot be diagnosed well via forums.

Typically an 8-pin chip. like 4407/4411/4431 or 48xx series. Cannot tell which one, because I don't know where the screwdriver slipped nor can I see & test the board.

good luck

For something like that, I need the Computer, try and open the Computer and remove the Battery the BIOS Battery, and place it back, and see what happens...
