Question about Dell Latitude D610 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a DELL lattitude D610 and the power brick LED switches off whenever its plugged in. I bought another brick but it did the same. Doh! The laptop will function on its battery but the battery won't charge. I tried it with the battery out and it does not accept or see power from the brick. Any ideas ? what bit needs replacing ?

First, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. A very good way to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage. You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.
If the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.

My Dell Lattitude 610 will not power on when the power button is depressed. The battery has been switched with a battery that was fully charged, still no sign of life. What can I do?

Remove the battery and power on the laptop with the AC adapter and see if it powers up. If not then you probably need to have the motherboard replaced.

It may be that the power brick your using is damaged. You may just need a new power cord. Sometimes power cords can be damaged quite easily.

Boot up your machine, at the Dell logo screen press F12 and choose diagnostic on the menu list. If it failed at the DST test then you will need a replacement hard drive.

Dell lattitude d610 notebook wont power up. Got new battery yesterday, worked fine. Shut it down & now it wont power back up & yes the battery is fully charged.

Take the battery out (1 screw in the bottom of the case, then it pops out with the tab) and attach the power adapter, and see if it boots up now. If it does, you have a problem with your battery.

Did you have this problem before the new battery?

Dell D610, spontaneous power down. Rebooted OK on battery. PC-12 (65W-AC) brick LED blinks green once after plugging it in, but does not charge notebook. Is it the notebook or the power adapter?

how you can test that is by completely removing the battery and then see how it boots up. If it wont boot then i would suspect the system board.
